Yesterday was Vietnam War Veterans Day.
That war lasted approximately 20 years, from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 and too many of our men and women didn’t come back. But we did…300,000 of us are still here helping each other because we have wounds no one can see. We have PTSD. We have Moral Injury. We were shamed.
But we were brave.
We raised our hands and signed a promise to do whatever was asked of us to protect our country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I proudly served as a Marine in 1968-1969. My Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was for clerical work at Parris Island, Camp LeJeune, and Camp Pendleton. The skills I learned in active duty then help me serve veterans now in Monterey County and beyond.
Are you involved with your United Veterans Council, your Retired Soldiers Council, your Blue Star Mothers? Are you a member of the American Legion? Are you sharing your skills with your local Posts?
Post 593 on Prunedale North Road supports Americanism, National Defense, Veteran Rehabilitation, and Children and Youth. In June, we are sending Juniors from North Monterey County High School to Boys and Girls State and to Girls State, week long leadership camps where they will learn how government works. We have Cub Scout Pack 593 that meets in the Senior Center on Wednesday nights at 6, and we will gladly change that if you will come because we now have only one child attending. We support the Little League team in Salinas.
Welcome home, Vietnam Vets!
This is our day. 💕😊
