Once again, on behalf of the PIHPS BOD, I'd like to thank Johan Bjurman for a wonderful night at our Meet the Artist event. Everyone had a good time. His demo of painting a still life was very informative. Thank you Johan for donating the still life to the Museum. See his finished painting hanging in the museum.

The PIHPS Museum will be closed tomorrow August 15 from noon to 2 pm. Thus allowing our docents to enjoy the Firemans Fair.
We will be open in the morning from 10 am until Noon.
Thanks

Announcing a special meeting this Saturday 9:30 at the PIHPS Museum. It will be very short; we only have to vote on the new By-Laws.

Last night’s “Meet the Artist” event at the PIHPS was a huge success. I was amazed at how many attended. The hit of the night was watching Johan create a still life masterpiece. Honestly, it was fantastic watching him work.

Let’s not forget, it was a fund raiser for the society and we sold a number of Johan’s paintings. Good news is there are more painting available. Stop by this weekend (Saturday 10 am -2 pm, Sunday 1-3pm and Tuesday 1-3 pm) and see the paintings first hand. We do have a video of what’s available, take a look. Be sure to stop by, photographs and videos just do not do the paintings justice.

Thanks to all for supporting the Society

As an added attraction, Johan will be giving a ‘still life’ painting demonstration.

South end Looking Towards Jamestown
Painting size 7.25x7.25, frame size 11.5x11.5
Hidden in plain sight. It takes an artist to capture an everyday object and bring it to our attention. This huge boulder has been on the Island shoreline since the glaciers dropped it off over 21,000 years ago. The painting of the boulder with Jamestown in the background reminds us to slow down and enjoy the many treasures the Island offers us.
This is one the painting by Islander Johan Bjurman available for viewing and for sale at the PIHPS Museum. Johan has graciously agreed to donate one half of the sale proceeds to the Society.
Stop by the museum to view this and other paintings. August museum hours are Saturday’s noon until 2 and Sunday’s & Tuesday’s 1 until 3. September hours are Saturday noon until 2 and Sunday 1 until 3
Now retired from commercial endeavors, Johan Bjurman is currently turning his attention to his plein air landscape painting and studio still life. Johan's primary interest is in working from life for a better understanding of light, space, and the energies of the surrounding environment. Johan, a long-time Island summer resident, has captured numerous landscape and historical buildings of the Island. He is an avid supporter of many Island organizations including the PIHPS.

Ferry at Third Street
Painting size 5.75x12, frame size 8.5x14.5

The Island revolves around Ferry times. We meet it to greet friends and relatives, and to see them off to the mainland. Normally we are up close to the ferry, although some like to take a step back to reflect on the importance of the ferry. Johan captured the essence of the ferry from Third Avenue. Sometimes it takes an Artist’s eye to share a different view of a common sight.
