Last call for PI Tattoos
Show Us Your Prudence Tattoo

The Prudence Island Historical and Preservation Society is planning a new exhibit for 2026 of islanders with their Prudence tattoos. Many islanders show their love of Prudence by having it inked on their body. We need your help to make this exhibit possible.
Please take a photo of your tattoo and send us your name and a brief description of how you picked the design and what it means to you. Feel free to credit your tattoo artist or tattoo parlor.

Send the photo and information to Rick Buckley via email at [email protected]

We think this will be a fun exhibit for all of us. Help make this exhibit possible.

PS the attached Tattoo image belongs to Brieann Buckley. See this tat and more this spring at the Museum.

Bristol Harbor in the Afternoon
painting size 9.5 wide x 6, frame size 13.25 wide x 9.5. Price available upon request
Just as the afternoon sun starts to set, Mother Nature lights up the town of Bristol. The golden sun lights up the windows of Bristol’s shore line buildings. The fading light brightens the Harbor one last time before evening sets. With Poppasquash Point in the foreground and the sailboats gliding by, the view from Mill Creek is a special one enjoyed by all Islanders. Once again, Johan captures the serenity of our fair island, away from the hustle and bustle of the Mainland.
This is one of four paintings by Islander Johan Bjurman available for viewing and for sale at the PIHPS Museum. Johan has graciously agreed to donate one half of the sale proceeds to the Society.
Stop by the museum to view this and other paintings. August museum hours are Saturday’s noon until 2 and Sunday’s & Tuesday’s 1 until 3. September hours are Saturday noon until 2 and Sunday 1 until 3
Now retired from commercial endeavors, Johan Bjurman is currently turning his attention to his plein air landscape painting and studio still life. Johan's primary interest is in working from life for a better understanding of light, space, and the energies of the surrounding environment. Johan, a long-time Island summer resident, has captured numerous landscape and historical buildings of the Island. He is an avid supporter of many Island organizations including the PIHPS.

A Glimpse of Spring 12.75x15” Price available upon request
In this painting you have a blooming Dogwood tree. When the dogwood blooms in the spring, you know the days of summer are soon to follow. The tree is located on Narragansett Ave after Nag Pond as you head toward the west side. It marks the entrance to the Island’s Desert Trail.

Blueberry Pickers
Painting size 18 wide x 18”, frame size 25.5 wide x 25.5. Price available upon request
Artist Johan Bjurman’s attention to detail is uncanny. Looking at this painting, one has to wonder what first caught his attention. Was it the rusting converted farm vehicle or the rust stained roof of the old milk/printing house. The more you look at the painting, you come to realize it was neither but the group of islanders on the hunt for the delicious blueberries grown on the Farnham Farm!

Horse in the Window.
Painting size 12 wide x 9, frame size 17 wide x 14. Price available upon request
This spring had to be one of the dreariest springs on record. Artist Johan Bjurman managed to capture a ray of sunshine on the corner of Church and High streets, Bristol, RI. It wasn’t the bright tangerine-orange Jeep that inspired him to set up his painting easel though but the full size horse in the window of the shop on the corner. This little ray of sunshine is yours for the asking. Visit the PIHPS museum for a viewing.

Vintage Butterfly Quilt

Own a piece of quilt history!!!
This is a beautiful hand appliqued butterfly quilt measuring 71” x 85” (queen size).
The quilt’s material includes vintage feedsack and fabric from the 30’s and 40’s. The top was purchased in Brimfield MA by Donna Pappas and donated to the Prudence Island Quilter’s by her daughter, Christine Pappas. It was hand tied by members of the Prudence Island Quilters in July of 2024: in keeping with the era in which the top was completed.
Raffle tickets are available at the Prudence Island Historical and Preservation Society and from Cindy Buckley, president of Prudence Island Quilters. Proceeds will benefit both organizations, with the quilters money to be used for education of new quilters to carry on our legacy on the island.
