As the long days of summer begin to give way to the turning of the seasons, it’s a natural time for reflection. In Freemasonry, we’re often reminded to pause, take stock, and ask: How have I used my time? Have I labored with purpose? Have I grown in wisdom and service?

Much like the harvest season ahead, our work—whether in the Lodge, in our families, or in the community—bears fruit when it’s nurtured with patience and care.

May we each use these waning days of summer to strengthen our bonds of fellowship and to prepare for the months ahead with renewed purpose.

The Square and Compasses are perhaps the most recognized emblem of Freemasonry — but they are far from our only symbol. Throughout history, Freemasons have used tools, geometric shapes, and timeless imagery as reminders of personal growth, integrity, and service to others.

Just like a painter uses colors to stir emotion or a poet uses words to inspire thought, Masonic symbols are a form of art. They’re meant to be seen, reflected upon, and interpreted in ways that resonate with each individual.

You’ll find these designs not just in lodge rooms, but carved in stone, painted on ceilings, and woven into stained glass — each one telling a story without using a single word.

What symbols — Masonic or otherwise — inspire you, and why?

In many societies in the ancient world, you didn't become a man by reaching the legal age. You became a man through an initiation ritual. This ritual didn't just mark passage from boyhood to manhood; it also grounded you in your culture, taught you the history of your people and religion, gave you a direction for what was expected of you in society, and gave you a welcome place among the men of your tribe. Through the desacralization of modern society, we've lost much of this grounding as such initiation ceremonies were discarded. Many men feel adrift and rudderless after coming of age. But an initiation into Freemasonry can help you find some of that grounding and direction.
If you're a spiritual man seeking purpose and belonging, or curious about how Freemasonry can help you contextualize your role as a man in society, reach out to us. See what light there is in brotherhood.

As the summer sun casts its longest rays, we’re reminded of the value of light—not just in nature, but in the life of the mind and spirit.

Freemasonry has long been a tradition that seeks light: in knowledge, in service, and in fellowship. This time of year offers a moment to pause, reconnect, and reflect on the values we share.

It was during a summer much like this one—June of 1791—that Brother James Monroe, a future U.S. President, was initiated into Freemasonry. Like so many others, he found in the lodge a place of learning, community, and quiet strength.

At Damascus Lodge #10, we strive to continue that legacy of thoughtful engagement and brotherhood. Whether you’re a long-time Mason or simply curious about who we are and what we do, we welcome sincere questions and open hearts.

Enjoy the season. May it bring warmth, insight, and the kind of rest that prepares us for greater purpose.

In 1738, Benjamin Franklin became a Freemason—just a few years before he’d go on to help draft the Declaration of Independence. For him and many others, the Lodge was a space not just for fellowship, but for ideas that shaped a nation.

At Damascus Lodge #10, we still gather in that same spirit—brotherhood, personal growth, and thoughtful conversation. We seek to foster good company and timeless principles.

Located in Utah Vally, our door is open to good men seeking meaning, not just meetings.

In Freemasonry, symbols are more than decorations. They are tools for reflection, teaching, and transformation. Much like parables or metaphors, Masonic symbols convey profound truths in simple forms. They speak to the heart as much as the mind, inviting each Brother to explore deeper meanings at his own pace.

Symbols help us connect with timeless principles—Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth—in ways that transcend words. They remind us that Freemasonry isn’t just learned… it’s lived.
