USGA manages 4 Facebook presences:
•the public USGA at BYU and Faces of USGA pages,
•a private USGA Community group open to USGA members, former members, and individuals in the broader USGA community,
•and a private USGA group specific to each school year for active, participating members of USGA
In order to be a member of the USGA Community group, you must be a current or former active member
of USGA or a part of the broader USGA community. In order to be a member of USGA's current school year group, you must be a current BYU student who has been to at least one USGA meeting/activity during the semester or term. To join a USGA Facebook group, simply request to be added to the group and answer a few questions, the wait for an admin to approve your request. If you are a current BYU student and would like to be involved in USGA Leadership, we accept applications at the beginning of each semester/term. We have seven committees that plan and lead weekly activities. Our committees are: Communications, Community, Faith & Service, Friends & Allies, History, Intersectionality, and Student Outreach. In addition to helping plan activities, our leadership team has the opportunity to participate as Mentors in our Q***r Mentor Program for BYU students. For more information about this program or how to get involved, as a mentor or mentee please refer to our most recent Instagram post launching the program for the current semester or our website (usgabyu.com). USGA Mission Statement:
"USGA (Understanding Sexuality, Gender, and Allyship) is a student-led organization that provides a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies in Utah. Our mission is to foster understanding through open, respectful, and honest conversations about gender, sexuality, and identity—always through an intersectional lens. We are guided by compassion, a commitment to listen deeply, and a belief in the inherent worth of every person. We do not tolerate harassment, antagonism, or the outing of anyone based on gender or sexuality. We ask our members to be mindful of USGA’s political neutrality, and to be respectful of differing opinions regarding BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Reporting individuals on the basis of gender and/or sexuality to the Honor Code Office will not be tolerated. USGA will neither support nor oppose BYU’s Honor Code and/or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We do not align with or oppose any institution. Rather, we hold space for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. We welcome hard conversations, knowing that true allyship begins with the willingness to listen and the courage to grow. We ask everyone in our space to respect each other’s names, pronouns, and boundaries. Please don’t make assumptions or pressure anyone to share more than they’re comfortable with. While USGA is a supportive community, we’re students—not mental health professionals. If you're struggling, we encourage you to reach out to resources like Flourish, Celebrate, CAPS, or others listed on our website. If you’ve come to seek understanding, to be understood, and to belong—this is your place. USGA welcomes you." Please note that USGA meets outside of any sponsorship, endorsement, or support by BYU. We meet weekly on Thursday, 7:00pm, at the Provo Library. We also have a weekly FabHE meeting on Monday at 7:00pm, a safe alternative to FHE for q***r students. President: Mica Deustua
