Announcing our Season 16 special awards....

As our season comes to a close, we'd like to recognize the work of our incredible team. At our closing social last week we celebrated the following awards, some of which were voted on by yourself!

Join us in congratulating each of our incredible recipients:

Sarah Lorraine - Directors' Choice Award
Mariah Sainsbury - LayCee Award (voted on by our dancers and named after our late company member and friend, LayCee Barnett)
Mariah Sainsbury - Audience Choice Soloist Award (for her performance in Savor)
Darcie Day - Extraordinary Artist (voted for by her peers, Board members and Directors) for her creation of the dance "Dill Pickle Skewer" in Savor
Darcie Day - Audience Choice Award for her creation of the dance "Dill Pickle Skewer" in Savor

And because Savor is a show that relies so heavily on our company members to create and perform masterfully crafted solos, the Directors chose to recognize each of our company members with the Stand Out Soloist Award this year.

Thank you, WCDC dancers, for your incredible dedication to contemporary dance and for making our community a beautiful place to live.

We’re excited to highlight Shani Robison — teaching on the Mover Track ✨

Class: Ballet Technique

Refine your foundation with clarity, precision, and strength. Shani’s class centers alignment, musicality, and control—supporting dancers in bringing greater intention and efficiency to their movement.

This class is part of the core audition section of the weekend, offering a focused space to be seen in both technical and performance capacities.

Dancers who wish to audition without participating in the full intensive may register May 23–June 3. Movers who are already registered for the intensive do not need to register separately for the audition.

We’re excited to highlight Natalie Desch — teaching on the Mover + Maker Tracks ✨

Mover Class: Contemporary Practice — Athleticism and Poetry
Maker Class: Choreographic Playground (co-taught with Daniel Charon)

Grounded in Limón-based technique, Natalie’s Mover class weaves together athleticism and nuance—inviting dancers to explore weight, breath, and expressive range with clarity and depth. In the Maker track, she co-leads a collaborative space for curiosity, structure, and play within the choreographic process.

At Movers + Makers, you’ll work with artists like Natalie who connect physical rigor with artistic intention.

Mover Class: The Moving Body: Contemporary Technique in Action

Train with depth, clarity, and intention, then step into a collaborative creative process that invites curiosity, play, and rigorous exploration. Working across both technique and choreography, Daniel brings a holistic approach that connects how we move with how we create.

Class: Location Scouting for Dance Film

What does location add to a dance film? Through a mini-screening and discussion, this class explores how environment, architecture, and movement interact to shape the final work.

At Movers + Makers, you’ll work with artists like Katie who expand how you think about choreography beyond the stage.
