The Town of Provincetown recently released the Provincetown Coastal Resilience Plan. Learn more about what's in the report through some frequently asked questions we'll be sharing:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲?
The town has a combination of natural (dunes, salt marshes) and engineered (seawalls, bulkheads, revetments) defenses. The Town also purchased deployable barriers which may be used during coastal storms to prevent inundation in neighborhoods beyond Commercial Street.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 "𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻" 𝗮𝗻𝗱 "𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘆" 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?
Green: nature-based solutions like dunes, marsh restoration, and living shorelines.
Grey: engineered solutions like seawalls, bulkheads, and revetments.
Deployable: barriers and retrofits that can be installed to prevent specific storm impacts.

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆?
While the Town owns some shoreline infrastructure, many properties are privately owned. Responsibility for maintenance and adaptation lies with both public and private entities. The Town cannot act on private property, so while the Town will assist home and business owners wherever possible, the Town is responsible for resilience improvements on Town property, and private property owners are responsible for protecting their own property.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆?
The complex mix of public, private, state, and federal land in Provincetown requires broad collaboration to implement cohesive, large-scale resilience strategies.
