Through demonstrations, hands-on instruction, and individualized feedback, students will learn techniques to simplify the portrait painting process while building a deeper understanding of the structure, features, and expression of the human face.

Day 1
Thursday, July 16 | 1–5 PM
Work from photographs (provided or bring your own) to study the individual elements of the face and learn how they come together to create a portrait.

Day 2
Friday, July 17 | 9:30 AM–1 PM
Paint from a live model and create an original oil portrait using the techniques developed during the workshop.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your portrait skills or deepen your understanding of oil painting, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from one of Provincetown’s accomplished painters.

Some of nature’s most beautiful creations were never meant to be tamed.

Don’t miss UNTAMED, an exhibition of extraordinary assemblages by S.E. “Cay” Cayleff, celebrating beauty, memory, wonder, and joy.

UNTAMED
An Exhibition by S.E. “Cay” Cayleff
The Commons, Provincetown
May 27 – June 7

Drawing from a lifetime of collecting treasures found in metal junkyards, construction sites, roadside flea markets, swap meets, and forgotten corners of the world, Cay transforms discarded materials into richly layered assemblages that honor both nature and memory.
Animals are at the heart of these works—symbols of resilience, mystery, and untamed beauty. Through found objects and carefully curated remnants of the human world, Cay creates stories that invite us to reconnect with wonder and discover meaning in unexpected places.
In a time marked by uncertainty, distrust, and division, UNTAMED offers something essential: a celebration of beauty, joy, imagination, and the enduring magic that surrounds us.

Come experience the untamed.

Last night we celebrated the opening of fine, art., featuring new works by Carmen da Silva and Heat MacFarland. A joyful exhibition rooted in connection, creativity, and the spirit of the Love Revolution.

F*ck the noise. Feel the love.

fine, art.
An Exhibition by Carmen da Silva & Heat MacFarland
The Commons, Provincetown
May 27 – June 7

This collaborative exhibition embraces fearless, rule-free, childlike creation over perfectionism. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and intuitive expression, Carmen and Heat invite us to remember why we create in the first place: to connect, build community, spread joy, and celebrate love.

Together, these artists explore the process of falling in love with creativity again—trusting intuition, embracing play, and making space for wonder. In a world full of noise, this exhibition is an invitation to choose joy.

Step into the world of pinhole photography with acclaimed Provincetown artist Marian Roth. In this workshop, participants will explore the magic of image-making using one of photography’s oldest and simplest techniques: a tiny hole instead of a lens.
Marian Roth will give a talk on the mechanics and aesthetics of pinhole photography. You will learn how, in general, to construct a pinhole camera out of almost anything. Then we will turn a space in The Commons into a pinhole camera. Participants can use a phone or SLR to make images within the space.

*if you have a camera you would like to convert into a pinhole camera, please contact Marian Roth beforehand.

What is Pinhole Photography?
Pinhole photography is a lensless photographic technique that captures images using a tiny hole rather than a traditional camera lens. Light passes through the pinhole and projects an inverted image onto photosensitive paper or film, producing atmospheric and often beautifully unexpected results.

About Marian Roth
Marian Roth is an accomplished multi-disciplinary artist whose work spans photography, painting, and ceramics. Well known for her innovative camera obscura photography, Marian has long drawn inspiration from Provincetown’s landscape and light. “Provincetown has been my muse since I moved here in 1982. It is here that my life as an artist really began.” Her photographic background continues to influence her work across mediums, bringing a rich visual sensibility to everything she creates.

SENTIENT BEINGS: BRIDGES, SEAS, PORTS & HINTERLANDS
An exhibition by Sam C**t, on view through May 24, is an incredible journey through gesture, accident, and overactive seeing.

“I work with grassello al fresco, layering and carving until something catches and opens into its own logic — toward the genius loci of boats, barns, ruins, mountains.
I begin with a loose idea, but the real work is following what shows up through gesture, accident, and a kind of overactive seeing. Forms surface, half-found, half-made, and I follow them — carving or catching an edge in gold — until they hold.”

Step into this richly textured and deeply intuitive body of work before it closes.

Dina Barker’s new show, Emergence, is incredibly bold, intriguing, and absolutely not to be missed.  On exhibit through May 24.

“Wyld Art is more of an emergence than a purposeful creation. Exploring images that hold my attention, and reaching a state of playfulness where thought is abandoned and paint flows, opens the door to creation for me.

Whether a specific image appears or not, the piece comes through on its own terms. Viewers will see and feel from their individual perspectives, but hopefully intrigue, questions, and repeated investigation are common threads in the experience.

Materials are unlimited. Art is everywhere and can be made with anything.”
Step into the color, texture, and curiosity of this remarkable exhibition.
