Susan Avellar, first female captain of the Schooner Hindu comes out after another day teaching sailing at to take back her helm.

Susan, whose family member Al first brought to Provincetown, has dedicated the last couple decades of her retirement teaching children about seamanship, leadership, and community at the West End Racing Children’s Community Sailing Center. It’s moments like these that make the preservation of the Hindu feel worthwhile.

Sail As You Are is offering a private charter on Hindu to help support the legacy of the West End Racing Children’s Community Sailing program for their 75th year of programming during their upcoming anniversary celebration and fundraiser.

Left over bottles from guests on board the and make the most lovely vases for dahlias! Later this summer, when the Mayo’s flowers are ready, you can stop by the Hindu booth to purchase a bouquet! 🌸

Not only are these sailboats the most ecologically friendly option in our harbor, they also use reusable and or recyclable compostable earth friendly containers on board.

What a great start to this new life for the Hindu.

Our inaugural Red Carpet Welcome doubled as a 100th birthday celebration for the Hindu. Although it was a bit cold and gray, it was great to spend time on board the freshly restored Hindu with the people who supported her the most 💕
