Community Safety Act The Providence Community Safety Act is a city-wide ordinance aimed at creating police accountability and making communities safer.

If passed, the Providence Community Safety Act would:

+ Ban racial profiling and other forms of discriminatory policing.

+ Require police to verbally state the reason for a stop before asking for documents.

+ Require police to docume

nt the reason for every stop.

+ Ban arrests for driving without a license or other traffic violations.

+ Prevent police from interfering with civilians who are recording police activities.

+ Place restrictions on video recording and other surveillance BY the police .

+ Prevent the police for using the "consent search" loop hole when there is no probable cause of criminal activity.

+ Require police to ask each person what gender officer is appropriate to search them.

+ Prevent police from inquire about an individual's immigration status.

+ Require police to create clear policies for the "gang database," including criteria for being placed in it and a process for getting taken off.

+ Require police to provide better language access.

+ Prevent police from working with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

+ Establish a Community Safety Review Board with the power to reapportion Providence Police Department funds if they violate the ordinance.
