COYOTE RI MISSION STATEMENT

Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics Rhode Island (COYOTE RI is a feminist, s*x worker-led organization dedicated to advancing the human rights of women, girls, trans, and inters*x individuals within the s*x industry. We prioritize the voices and leadership of those most marginalized, including street-based s*x workers, youth (18-26), LGBTQ+ individuals, s*x workers of col

or, trans women, and migrant s*x workers facing intersecting oppressions such as language barriers, precarious citizenship status, and systemic racism, as well as incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and girls.

We work to dismantle the structural injustices that fuel criminalization and stigma, advocating for policy changes that promote health, safety, and autonomy. Our mission is to build a powerful, inclusive movement that challenges power structures and creates lasting, fundamental change. By fostering community, providing safe spaces, and amplifying under-addressed issues, we empower our constituents to exercise their agency and reclaim their rights. We are committed to building local, regional, and national leadership, ensuring that those directly impacted by criminalization are at the forefront of the fight for s*x workers’ human, health, labor, and civil rights. We aim to create a world where all s*x workers are treated with dignity and respect, and where their rights are fully recognized and protected.

Our Story

COYOTE was founded in 1973 to work for the repeal of the prostitution laws and an end to the stigma associated with s*x work. In addition to engaging in public education regarding a wide range of issues related to prostitution, COYOTE has provided crisis counseling, support groups, and referrals to legal and other service providers to thousands of prostitutes, mostly women. COYOTE members have also testified at government hearings, served as expert witnesses in trials, helped police with investigations of crimes against prostitutes, and provided sensitivity training to government and private non-profit agencies that provide services to prostitutes.
