Today, on Latina Equal Pay Day, we recognize a gap that cannot be ignored.

For every $1 earned by a white, non-Hispanic man, a Latina earns just 53¢. That means it can take Latinas approximately 10 additional months and 8 days to earn what he earned in one year.

This must change.

At the Latina Leadership Institute of Rhode Island, we believe closing the gap begins with opportunity. We continue to develop, empower, and elevate Latina leaders—building the confidence, skills, networks, and opportunities women need to advance, lead, and thrive.

Because representation in leadership matters.

Yesterday, we lost a woman who changed what was possible for all of us.
Gloria Steinem spent her life reminding women that we were never meant to be silent, invisible, or afraid of our own power. She opened doors she may never have walked through herself, simply because she believed the women coming behind her deserved the opportunity.
Her passing feels deeply personal because the work she dedicated her life to is the work we continue every day at the Latina Leadership Institute of Rhode Island. When a Latina discovers her voice, steps into her power, and realizes that she belongs in every room where decisions are being made, Gloria’s legacy lives on.
Many of the opportunities we have today exist because women like her had the courage to fight when it was difficult, uncomfortable, and often lonely. She carried that fight for generations of women she would never meet—and that is an incredible kind of love.
Now, it is our responsibility to carry it forward for our daughters and for every woman still waiting to believe in herself.
Rest in power, Gloria. Thank you for making us feel seen. Thank you for making us believe. And thank you for showing us that when one woman finds her voice, she can help millions of others find theirs. 🤍

We are beyond grateful to every woman who believed in herself enough to apply to the Latina Leadership Institute Cohort 2026–2027. Your courage, your stories, and your desire to grow inspire us, and we can’t wait to begin reviewing each application.

To everyone who submitted an application—thank you for trusting us with your leadership journey. We are excited to get to know those who will move on to the next stage of the selection process.
