RODS Heroes

RODS Heroes Our Mission is to uncover & celebrate the superpowers of individuals with Down syndrome ❤️

RODS was founded in 2012 with the mission to inspire families to answer the call to adopt a child hero with special abilities. Through the miracle of adoption, we believe that the biggest blessing being received is not the child receiving a family, but the family that is receiving the child.

It’s time for Feature Friday and today we are highlighting a fabulous organization outside the US! Check it out!

“At Alegra el Barrio, we believe no family should face a Down syndrome diagnosis alone (those in LA and other areas may have heard the concept of BARRIO or neighborhood as it has a special sense of care and belonging)! We are a nonprofit organization in Peru born to transform that first moment — the one that changes everything — into an experience of warmth, respect, and hope. We provide guidance, emotional support, and real information to families navigating this journey, while building a community that empowers moms, educates healthcare professionals, and embraces every child’s full potential. Because inclusion doesn’t start with a policy. It starts with a neighborhood, a conversation, and a welcome that says: “You belong here, and you are not alone!”

We work in 3 lines of action:

Through our Welcome Program, we reach out to newly diagnosed families with a care package full of love and real information.

Through our Support Networks, we connect and empower moms, building a community that goes beyond borders.

And through our work in changing the narrative of the DS diagnosis , we educate healthcare professionals to deliver this news with empathy, dignity, and a focus on possibility — not fear.”

Be sure to follow and see all the incredible work they are up to!

The people who are qualified to speak about what it’s like to have Down syndrome are individuals with Down syndrome. And almost 100% of them say they love their life. Can you imagine what the world would be like if every person on the planet felt that way?

At ROD Heroes, the mission is to uncover the superpowers of individuals with Down syndrome and the truth of the matter is, every single person on earth has unique and beautiful gifts to share - without exception. For far too long the superpowers of individuals with Down syndrome have been hidden or tucked away in one form or another. But we believe that can change and IS changing!

It will continue to change as people like YOU listen, learn and spread the word about Down syndrome. Pick up your copy of, Cooper is Super and So Are You https://www.coopermurray.org and share it with your community. Bit by bit the flame of truth will spread.

What an incredible first week of Heroes Club! We loved seeing our runners lace up their shoes, encourage one another, and discover just how strong they really are. Across all of our clubs, we witnessed so many amazing moments—new friendships forming, goals being reached, confidence growing, and plenty of smiles along the way.

There’s still time to register and join the magic!

When we want to know about what the life of someone with Down syndrome is like, the first place to start is someone with Down syndrome. The second place to go is the family of individuals with Down syndrome. Facts and figures and googling can’t capture the heart of a matter. Family can do that. And these precious brothers certainly do. Thank you, for sharing your boys with us.

It’s time for Feature Friday!!! Today it’s all about !

“Our journey at GiGi’s Playhouse North Jersey began with a dream shared by a group of dedicated parents: to create a space where individuals with Down syndrome are celebrated, supported, and empowered at every stage of life. For years, we waited and hoped for a Playhouse to open nearby, but as time passed and our children grew, we realized this responsibility lay with us. However...
Before we can open our doors to GiGi’s Playhouse North Jersey, we must build them.

On Saturday, June 13, we are hosting our inaugural GiGi’s 5K - Dash for Down Syndrome at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, New Jersey, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., welcoming participants of all ages and abilities to walk, run, volunteer, and celebrate a shared commitment to building a more inclusive world.

We are funded entirely by donors and sponsors, not just during this startup phase but also when we open our doors and begin providing FREE programming for individuals with Down syndrome and related disabilities and their families across the lifespan. You can get involved by signing up for our newsletter, volunteering your time, or making a donation.

GiGi’s Playhouse is the only international network of Down Syndrome Achievement Centers providing free educational, therapeutic, and career-development programs for individuals with Down syndrome of all ages. Founded in 2003, the organization has grown to 62 locations across the United States and Mexico while serving families in more than 80 countries through its Virtual Playhouse platform.”

We are cheering you on across the country!!!

Meet Lennon! 💛

This vibrant 5-year-old from Latin America brings his own rhythm wherever he goes. Whether he’s clapping along, dancing with joy, or singing his heart out, music is his happy place. 🎶✨ Lennon is full of warmth, loves to connect, and lights up every room with his smile.

When he’s not enjoying his favorite songs, you’ll find him snacking on watermelon, playing ball, or showing off his fun sense of style. 👕💫

Lennon has an extra chromosome 💙—and he’s hoping to find a loving family to share his big heart with. Could that be you?
