Strait Talk is a non-partisan dialogue program that seeks to transform international conflict by educating, connecting and empowering young leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the United States. Founded by Brown undergraduate students in 2005, Strait Talk aims to inspire and equip the current generation of students and young professionals to seek common ground and to build trust across

the Strait as they ascend to positions of influence in the future. Through a symposium featuring interactive conflict resolution sessions and public panels and workshops, Strait Talk works to foster peaceful progress and constructive dialogue across the Taiwan Strait. There are currently five chapters of Strait Talk worldwide:
Brown University
George Washington University
University of California, Berkeley
University of Hong Kong
National Taiwan University

Do you want to learn more about the Taiwan Strait Issue? Are you interested in meeting people from Mainland China, Taiwan, and the United States? Are you an open-minded individual who is prepared to engage in an intellectually stimulating dialogue with people from all sides of the issue? If you answered “yes” to all three questions, then you are ready to apply to the 2022 Brown University Strait Talk Symposium, held online through Brown University, from Saturday, May 28 to Saturday, June 4.

Strait Talk is a nonpartisan, youth-run organization that fosters peaceful progress on the Taiwan Strait issue through educating, connecting, and empowering young leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the United States. Currently in its sixteenth year, Brown University Strait Talk has brought together more than 300 Chinese, Taiwanese, and Americans to learn about and take action on the cross-Strait issue. The symposium has inspired many delegates to initiate programs and activities that promote a peaceful cross-Strait future in their hometowns and around the world.

The week-long symposium will bring together 15 delegates from Taiwan, the US, and Mainland China to engage in over 20 hours of constructive dialogue sessions as well as conflict resolution workshops to come up with feasible proposals for a sustainable cross-Strait future. Prominent speakers and professors from different US universities and think tanks will also meet and speak with the delegates and discuss cross-Strait issues in various panels throughout the week. At the end of the week, delegates will have the chance to discuss and present their proposals.

We hope to recruit interested students or young professionals (ages 20-35) to apply as part of the American, Chinese, and Taiwanese delegations to the symposium (delegate ages outside this age range will be considered on a case-by-case basis). Application forms and additional information can be found on our website: http://straittalk.org/strait-talk-brown-university-1. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected]. The application deadline is March 31st, 2022 at 11:59 pm EST.
