The Center will serve as Rhode Island’s only LGBTQ community center, and provide operational support for LGBTQ organizations without offices. By providing a common space for diverse LGBTQ organizations, and social and educational opportunities, The Center will serve as a “hub” for community gatherings. The Center will offer a regular schedule of social events such as film screenings, potluck dinne
rs, dances, community forums, and speaker events. The Center will also serve as a venue for educational workshops on LGBTQ history, financial and legal planning for LGBTQ families, adoption and social services access and elder care. The Center will provide space for LGBTQ-specific support groups to meet including “coming out” groups, transgender support groups, recovery groups, LGBT senior groups, and other support groups as determined by community need. The Center will partner with AIDS Care Ocean State to offer HIV/AIDS testing and education in partnership with AIDS Care Ocean State. The Center will also serve as a drop-off location for in-kind donations for people living with HIV/AIDS and provide social and educational opportunities that raise awareness of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, and support needs for people with HIV/AIDS.
