That belief drives Anthony Hubbard, Founder and CEO of YouthBuild Preparatory Academy.

Anthony created YouthBuild Preparatory Academy with a clear conviction: young people deserve more than a system that was never designed for them. He envisioned a school where students build confidence, discover their power, and are prepared to lead meaningful change in their communities.

He also recognizes that it is nearly impossible to reimagine what high school could be when the traditional system resists transformative change. You cannot talk about innovation without also being willing to change the infrastructure that holds education in place, making room for creativity, new models, and a future-focused approach to learning.

As an educator, author, and advocate for liberatory education, Anthony continues to challenge traditional ideas of what school should be. His work is grounded in a simple truth: education should not only teach students how to survive the world. It should prepare them to transform it.

$1.281 MILLION.

YouthBuild Preparatory Academy has been awarded $1.281 million through a highly competitive grant process to expand career pathways and workforce opportunities for young people in Providence.

For years, we have said that investing differently in young people requires being willing to build differently.

Not everyone has always understood the vision. That’s okay.

When local support has been difficult to find, national recognition has continued to find us.

This investment gives us the opportunity to expand the work, create more opportunities for young people, and continue building the kind of public education we believe our community deserves.

$1.281 million says somebody was paying attention.

The Leadership We Have Been Preparing For

When we launched YouthBuild Preparatory Academy, we knew building a new school would not be easy.

Over the years, we've celebrated successes, learned hard lessons, faced challenges head-on, and adapted when things didn't go as planned. We've grown through those experiences, becoming stronger, more innovative, and more resilient with each step.

Today, we're excited to enter our next chapter with Alisa Diakite serving as our Head of School. Her leadership reflects the values that have helped shape our journey: accountability, excellence, collaboration, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.

This is more than a leadership transition. It's the next step in the evolution of our school and the continuation of the work we've been building toward together.

YouthBuild Preparatory Academy is seeking strong, student-centered educators in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies who are ready to teach beyond the textbook.

At YBPA, students learn through meaningful projects, real-world problem-solving, interdisciplinary learning, and opportunities to demonstrate mastery. We are looking for educators who build strong relationships, hold high expectations, and believe students should have an active voice in their education.

This work requires creativity, consistency, collaboration, and a willingness to challenge traditional approaches that have not worked for every student.
