What a great time at the Rhode Island Foundation’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. We loved seeing so many familiar faces and catching up with people who make Rhode Island’s communities stronger every day.

More than two years into Rhode Island Education Collective’s journey, we’re taking a moment to look back at the vision that started it all, and what that vision has become.

Victor founded the Collective with a simple but ambitious idea: bring everyone who has a stake in our schools to the table and create the conditions for real change.

Today, that means parents finding their voices, educators sharing ideas, community leaders building new partnerships, and Rhode Islanders coming together to ask a fundamental question: What can be better for our children?

In this Q&A, Victor reflects on the Collective’s beginnings, what he’s most proud of, and why bringing unlikely people together remains at the heart of this work.

Meet Jillian! 👋

We’re excited to welcome Jillian Evans to Rhode Island Education Collective as our new intern!

A recent Providence College alumna and current graduate student at Brown University, Jillian brings a strong interest in urban education, public schools, and higher education pathways. She’ll be supporting our work around policy, legislation, and advocacy.

We’re so glad to have you on the team!

A few weeks ago, we joined Family Service of Rhode Island for its Brighter Futures luncheon, a great afternoon celebrating the people and partnerships working to support Rhode Island children and families.

We’re grateful to be part of this community and to share the afternoon with so many partners doing important work across our state.

Sometimes, you have to keep showing up.

When Victor was assigned to a different Providence high school, he had other plans. He kept showing up at Central High School until they finally enrolled him.

Decades later, Victor returned for his induction into the Central High School Hall of Fame and reflected on what that decision meant to his life.

He calls it one of the best decisions he ever made.

We’re proud to celebrate his Central High School roots and the determination that has continued to shape his life and his work in education.

Today, we had the privilege of participating in the 2026 RIC Latiné Summit, bringing together college students, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate Hispanic and Latiné Heritage Month.

We’re especially proud to see Victor serve as a panelist for this year’s summit, contributing to important conversations around leadership, advocacy, and cultural identity.

This year’s theme, “Voices that Transform Communities,” is a powerful reminder that our voices, stories, and experiences have the ability to inspire change and strengthen the communities we call home.

Thank you to RhodeIslandCollege for creating space for connection, dialogue, and celebration. ¡Seguimos elevando nuestras voces y transformando nuestras comunidades!

Big news for the Collective! 🎉

We’re excited to share that , our Chief of External Affairs, has been selected to join Cohort 11 of the Leadership Institute!

This intensive leadership development experience brings together education advocates from across the country to strengthen skills in persuasion, negotiation, and leading change. Over the coming year, Andy will learn alongside an incredible cohort of peers united by a shared belief that every student deserves a future without limits.

We’re proud to see him take part in this opportunity and look forward to all he’ll bring back to the Collective and the communities we serve. Congratulations, Andy!

Last week, our Chief of External Affairs, Andy MacMannis, joined a panel hosted by Onward We Learn exploring the broad education ecosystem in Rhode Island.

Moderated by Onward We Learn Chief Program Officer Hilary Lewis, the conversation brought together leaders from across the education landscape, including Stephanie Downey Toledo, Superintendent of Central Falls Public Schools, and Onna Holland from the Rhode Island Department of Education’s Office of College and Career Readiness.

The panel covered a wide range of issues shaping education across our state and reinforced an important message: our students and families benefit when the many organizations and leaders that make up Rhode Island’s education ecosystem work together.

🎉 Happy birthday to the Rhode Island Education Collective!

Two years of showing up, listening to communities, bringing people together, and working to make sure every Rhode Island child has access to a great public school.

What started with a vision has grown into a community of educators, families, partners, and changemakers who believe we can do better and make meaningful change happen.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. ❤️

🍧 End of school year vibes! 🍧

We partnered with to treat the students and staff at Raices Dual Language Academy to a well-deserved end-of-year celebration.

A huge thank you to the educators who pour so much into their students each day and to the families and children who make Raíces such a special community.

We hope everyone enjoys a fun, restful, and well-deserved summer break!
