🇦🇱 Thanks to generous Albanian donors, last June, we launched our “Grandmothers for Children” program, hiring and training EIGHT grandmothers to help children in SEVEN orphanages, including a full-time facility for children with disabilities. So exciting! 👵🏻♥️👶🏼

🇦🇱 This year, we also celebrated the grand opening of the Women’s & Children’s Shelter in Korçë, Albania, which we completed construction on at a former orphanage of Mother Teresa! It now offers safety, stability, and a fresh start for women and children in crisis and will serve up to 190 women and children each year. 🇦🇱 And, with your help, we are expanding our Abandonment Prevention efforts with a Europe-wide initiative to END CHILD MARRIAG and prevent early pregnancies that often follow. We do this by partnering with governments and other NGOs to drive legal, systemic, and policy reforms that protect these girls, help them stay in school, and finish their education. Në këtë artikull, Deborah Dushku, bashkëthemeluese e One Heart Albania, ndan bashkëpunimin e saj të fundit me Ina Majko, ku ajo zbulon një pjesë tronditëse të historisë së romëve që qëndron në rrënjë të vazhdimit të praktikës së martesave të hershme.

Unë dhe Ina po punojmë që fëmijët romë të qëndrojnë në shkollë, gjë që është një komponent kyç për t’i dhënë fund martesave të hershme, shtatzënive në moshë të re dhe braktisjes së fëmijëve, si dhe për të thyer ciklet e varfërisë.

Emërimi i Ina Majkos në qeverinë shqiptare është historik dhe misioni i saj është revolucionar! Ne jemi të entuziazmuar të bashkojmë forcat për të adresuar këto çështje—çështje të cilat, kur të trajtohen, do të ulin ndjeshëm numrin e foshnjave dhe fëmijëve romë që braktisen në jetimore.

Përpjekjet për de-institucionalizim duhet të adresojnë shkaqet rrënjësore të braktisjes së fëmijëve, dhe martesa e hershme është një prej tyre.

At last, One Heart Albania has replicated and launched One Heart Bulgaria ‘s “Baba Program”/“Grandmothers for Children Program” in Shkoder, Albania!

It took 3 years, but the best things take time, right?
The grandmothers we have chosen and trained are so sweet, capable, loving, and excited to get started with their respective groups of children at the orphanages.

This is a win-win program for the children and grandmothers alike. Love, companionship, purpose, connection, affection, and a sense of family are needed on both sides. And grandmothers need a way to make a living for themselves, so this is an all around amazing program that helps everyone involved! It’s a brilliant concept, originally conceptualized by Heidi Jensen, the other cofounder of One Heart Bulgaria.

We have an Albanian donor that is sponsoring 6 grandmothers at 5 orphanages! Because there’s so many children, 3 more grandmothers are needed. If you would like to sponsor a grandmother, please message me, or spread the word to other Albanians (or anyone) who might be interested. 👵🏼 🇦🇱 ❤️

Jemi shumë të emocionuar që po e ofrojmë programin “Gjyshet për Fëmijët” në këtë jetimore, ku ka shumë foshnja dhe fëmijë të vegjël që kanë nevojë të përqafohen dhe të ndihen të dashur. Gjyshe Naimja do të jetë perfekte për ta! ♥️👵🏼👶🏼💞

Kemi një lajm jashtëzakonisht emocionues!
Sot filluan punimet për rikonstruksionin e godinës që shumë shpejt do të shndërrohet në një strehë emergjente për gratë dhe fëmijët e dhunuar — e vendosur në një nga ish-jetimoret e Nënë Terezës në Korçë. 😄🙌🏼🎈

Bashkia e Korçës ka dashur të realizojë këtë projekt prej më shumë se tre vitesh, dhe jemi të nderuar dhe të emocionuar që po ndihmojmë ta bëjmë realitet — për qytetin, për gratë, dhe sidomos për fëmijët që kanë më shumë nevojë për këtë mbështetje.

♥️ Një falënderim i veçantë shkon për “Dushku Family Corporation” për dhurimin bujar të fondeve dhe për që po bashkëpunon me ne për ta bërë këtë projekt të ndodhë.
