Today’s address to Congress by His Majesty King Charles III was a powerful reminder that history is not just something we inherit—it is something we shape together.

As he reflected on the enduring ties between nations and the challenges facing our world—from conflict abroad to uncertainty at home—I was struck by the call to shared responsibility, steady leadership, and unity of purpose.

In Prince Hall Masonry, we understand that progress is built through brotherhood, service, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves. These same principles echo in moments like today—when leaders gather not just to reflect, but to reaffirm the values that guide us forward.

As we continue our work here in Rhode Island, may we remain grounded in those values—building stronger communities, lifting one another, and standing firm in the belief that our collective efforts can shape a more just and hopeful future.

Today, we stand in reverence of a document—and a moment—that changed the course of history: the Charter of African Lodge No. 459, issued on September 29, 1784, by the Grand Lodge of England.

This was more than ink on parchment. It was recognition. It was authority. It was a declaration that Prince Hall and his Brothers were entitled to the same light, structure, and dignity within the Craft as any other men.

From that charter, African Lodge was born—and from African Lodge, a movement. A legacy of Black leadership, self-determination, and institution-building that would grow into the Prince Hall Grand Lodges we serve today.

As Grand Master of Rhode Island, I am deeply mindful that we are part of that lineage. Our jurisdiction stands among those that carried this Light forward—organizing, governing, and preserving the integrity of Prince Hall Masonry across generations.

To witness and honor the Symbolic Opening of African Lodge No. 459 today is to be reminded that we are not simply inheritors of history—we are its continuation.

May we remain worthy of the charter we were given.
May we lead with purpose.
And may we continue to build what our forefathers so boldly began.

Fraternally proud,
Kyle Bennett

🌍 Celebrating International Women’s Day – March 8, 2026

Today, the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Rhode Island proudly joins communities around the world in celebrating International Women’s Day and honoring the strength, leadership, and contributions of women everywhere.

Throughout our history, women have been pillars of our families, our communities, and our institutions. The women who stand beside our Brothers—our mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, and the members of our extended Masonic family—have played an essential role in supporting our mission of service, charity, and uplift. Their dedication, wisdom, and compassion help shape the future we are building together.

On this day, we celebrate the achievements of women, recognize their enduring impact, and reaffirm our commitment to a world where opportunity, respect, and dignity are shared by all.

💜💛 Happy International Women’s Day from the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Rhode Island.

Black contributions in the volunteer and civic space have been around since the Revolutionary War. Out of those spaces came formal organizations aimed at redefining American democracy.

One of the leading figures in creating a Black fraternal organization was Prince Hall. He, along with 14 other Black men, brought Freemasonry to the United States after being inducted into a regimental lodge of the British Army in 1775. With this knowledge, the fraternal organization laid the foundation to share secrets, pass down important knowledge, and disrupt politics and race relations as America knew it. Since then, Black fraternities and sororities have become critical in advancing rights for Black American’s at every point in history.

In this episode of Black History in Two Minutes or So hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. — with additional commentary from Hasan Jeffries of Ohio State University — we look at the origins of Black services and how their continued commitment for equality for Black people is still seen to this day.

Black History in Two Minutes (or so) is a 9x nominated and 4x Webby Award winning series.

Today, we mourn the passing of a giant in our nation’s history — Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. — a tireless champion for justice, equality, and the dignity of all people.

Rev. Jackson walked in the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and carried the torch of the Civil Rights Movement into new generations, never wavering in his call for opportunity, fairness, and human rights. Through faith, advocacy, and fearless leadership, he gave voice to the marginalized and hope to millions who believed in a more just America.

His life’s work reminds us that progress is not accidental — it is built by those willing to stand, speak, organize, and sacrifice. From the pulpit to the streets, from grassroots organizing to national leadership, Rev. Jackson embodied service rooted in love and courage.

I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Jacqueline, his children — including Jonathan, Jesse Jr., and Santita — and to the countless people whose lives were touched by his leadership. May we honor his legacy not only in words, but in continued action for justice, unity, and opportunity.

Rest in power, Reverend Jackson. Your work endures.

Fraternally yours,
