Showing up for your community can be simple, meaningful, and deeply human.

This Volunteer Month, there are so many ways to be part of the work. You might stock shelves, guide pantry shoppers, serve a warm meal, help with cleanup, assemble hygiene kits, support outreach, or lend a hand at community events.

Some volunteers come once, while others return every week. No matter how much time is spent, every role makes a difference.

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, this is a great time to start. There’s a place for you here.

World Health Day is a reminder that health begins with the essentials, and for many, that starts with access to food.

Food insecurity doesn’t just mean missing meals. It can affect energy, long-term health, and the ability to manage everyday life. When people don’t know where their next meal is coming from, everything else becomes harder.

That’s why access to nutritious food and supportive services matters so much.

At Better Lives, our food programs help meet immediate needs, while our Friday Community Meal offers not just a warm meal, but access to on-site health screenings and additional support in a welcoming space.

Housing is more than a roof overhead. It is the foundation for health, stability, and dignity.

This National Fair Housing Month, we’re reminded that access to safe, stable housing is deeply connected to overall well-being. When someone has a place to call home, it becomes easier to focus on health, build routines, and move forward with confidence.

At Better Lives, we see every day how housing support can open the door to better outcomes for individuals and families across our community.

Because housing is healthcare, and everyone deserves both.

This Women’s History Month, we are thinking about the women who are rebuilding their lives one day at a time.

Not every new beginning is loud. Some begin with a safe place to stay, steady support, and the chance to move forward with dignity.

Our transitional housing program offers a fully staffed six-bed home, trauma-informed care, and wraparound support for women leaving incarceration. That support can make room for stability, healing, and a real fresh start.

Be part of what makes these new beginnings possible: www.betterlivesri.org/transitional-housing-for-women-leaving-incarceration

For many people who walk through our doors, Friday dinner isn’t just a meal. It’s a moment of relief after a long week.

At our Friday Community Meal, there’s no paperwork or barriers. Just a warm meal, a friendly face, and a space where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

And while guests are here, they can connect with helpful resources like health screenings, legal clinics, flu shots, and outreach support.
