🔢 Math is better together!
Our 4th graders were busy at the whiteboards, each tackling their own math challenges while learning alongside their classmates! Last week, our 5th graders proudly read from the Torah for our school community, chanting Parashat Breish*t with confidence, enthusiasm, and care!

Reading Torah takes practice, dedication, and a whole lot of skill, and we couldn't be prouder of how our students have grown as Torah readers and leaders.

And perhaps the best part? Watching our younger students look on with admiration and excitement, inspired by what they, too, will one day be able to do. That pride and enthusiasm are contagious! 💛

Apparently, JAM’s Penguin Party was a pretty big hit!

There was plenty of penguin-themed fun, creativity, and laughter. But we think one JAM kid summed it up best when they went home and reported:

“We had a penguin party today and it was the best day ever!”

We’re not quite ready to say goodbye to Sukkot!

Gathering for our Community Sukkot Breakfast and spending time learning with and from one another is always a special experience.

Our 5th graders never cease to amaze us with their thoughtful words of Torah. It takes courage to stand up and share your learning with a group of grown-ups!

A big thank you as well to Rabbi Abi Oshins for sharing words of Torah with us. We feel so lucky to have you as part of our greater Providence community. 💛

What a gift it is to celebrate, learn, and simply be together in community.

🔬 Science came to life on Narragansett Bay for our 5th graders!

During an incredible day with our partners at Save the Bay, students tested the water for salinity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature, collected and examined plankton, conducted a trawl to discover some of the animals living beneath the surface, and explored the salt marsh on Prudence Island.

There’s nothing quite like getting out of the classroom and into the environment you’re studying!

Thinking Like Scientists in 4th Grade!

Our 4th graders recently took on an Inquiry Cube challenge designed to get them observing, questioning, and thinking like scientists.

Students examined patterns on five sides of a cube and used their observations to predict what might be on the hidden bottom. The challenge? There was no answer key! Instead, students had to gather evidence, identify patterns, make a prediction, and explain the reasoning behind it.

And that’s exactly the point. Science doesn’t always give us an immediate “right answer.” Scientists use what they can observe to develop explanations and predictions, then continue asking questions as new evidence emerges.

It was a simple activity with some pretty big scientific thinking!

As Yom Kippur approaches, our 5th graders have been reflecting on their own individual journeys and the idea that, much like climbing a mountain, growth happens one step at a time.

Through meditation and art, each student created a physical representation of their own mountain, thinking about where they are starting, the journey ahead, and who they hope to become along the way.

As we enter this season of reflection, may we all take a little time to think about where we’ve come from, where we are now, and where we hope to be a year from now.

Our 1st–5th graders took their learning outdoors for JCDSRI's annual Tashlich experience.

Students participated in Reverse Tashlich, caring for our community by picking up litter, and then gathered by the water for Tashlich, reflecting on the past year and the steps of t’shuvah, making choices that help us become our best selves.

And, of course, there was plenty of time for games, laughter, and being together. What a meaningful and joyful way to begin the new year!
