RICAREs: The Recovery Community Organization for RI

RICAREs: The Recovery Community Organization for RI RICARES advocacy means that we do not do for others what they can do for themselves. Peer work is about uplifting the inherent self advocacy that we all hold.

We engage with systems advocacy resulting in a policy lens.

Last week, Nic Caramante joined the RICARES staff as our new Peer Recovery Program Coordinator. Nic (they/she) is a long-time community member and friend, and we're so psyched to have them on the team!

A little about Nic for those who don't know: Nic Caramante, CPRS (they/she), is a person in long-term recovery who has been working in the recovery field for 3+ years. Nic was born and raised in Rhode Island and has seen the effects of addiction firsthand. Nic believes that allowing peer recovery specialists to have a voice and a say in their career and community is of utmost importance. They want to inspire peers, prevent compassion fatigue, encourage peer recovery specialists to realize the value of sharing their own lived experience, and give peers the chance to find their own personal pathway to a meaningful career.
Nic has worked in many capacities in the field, including in recovery housing, inpatient treatment at AdCare Rhode Island, and at Anchor Recovery Community Center through The Providence Center. Nic embraces and believes in all pathways to recovery. They are a founding member of RIPRPA, Rhode Island’s Peer Recovery Professional Association.
In their free time, they enjoy baking for others, painting, and trying new restaurants around Rhode Island.

Tonight, RICARES is hosting a community candidate forum at our office, bringing together 25+ candidates across all upcoming elections for a structured conversation on the issues shaping our community.

To update you on what we're doing, thinking, and accomplishing, we've launched our Substack. Our inaugural article covers the successes of the most recent legislative session. It's a closer look at what passed, why it matters, and what comes next for our community.

Subscribe and read the first piece: https://ricares.substack.com/p/building-recovery-capital-through

We believe informed civic engagement starts with accessible information and direct access to the people running for office. We hope you'll join us for both.

On August 27th, RICARES hosted an end-of-summer BBQ for all RI recovery houses. Graciously catered by George O'Toole, George's Grille provided delicious BBQ fare! (Thanks, George and team! )
There were fun lawn games, music, and mingling. An awesome time to unwind, build community, and celebrate our recovery together! A great way to celebrate the end of summer! Now on to recovery month!!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us; we had a blast!
