As we all try to navigate this incredibly stressful time, we are thankful for our West Side Play Space community. As an organization that is community centered, we need to turn our attention to helping one another. The organization WSPS partners with, Children's Friend, is a non-profit organization that provides child welfare, family support, mental health, youth development services.

The families that Children's Friend serve face a myriad of obstacles in their lives, including poverty, language barriers, lack of education, substance abuse, and difficulty accessing health care. At this time, these obstacles are becoming even more staggering.

Please take a moment to learn about their campaign to secure the safety, health, and well-being of the children and families they serve during the COVID-19 crisis. Any contribution will be appreciated.

As you all know, West Side Play Space rents our location from Children's Friend. Because all classes at Children's Friend have been suspended until Friday, March 20, WSPS will close as well.
This is a developing situation and we will let our membership know when WSPS will be able to resume activity in the building.

We know this is an uncertain time for many of us, given recent events and the constant news updates about COVID-19. We don't want to be alarmist in any way and are trying to stay even-handed when it comes to what all of this means for the Play Space, but we also want to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy.

So unfortunately we've decided to cancel this weekend's events -- including play hours and the potluck. If you were scheduled for a shift next week, but do not feel comfortable volunteering, let us know.

As members, it is up to us how we want to handle open play and events for the rest of March and April, recognizing we may not know exactly how things will unfold.

We will be sending out a poll in the next few days to gather suggestions about how we proceed in the future as a community of families.

Thanks to all of you for being a part of our co-op -- and we hope everything will return to normal sooner rather than later.

Just a gentle reminder, if you or your child(ren) present any signs of illness including excessive coughing, sneezing, fever, and/or heavy nasal discharge we ask that you refrain from coming to the WSPS until you are symptom free!

If children put toys in and around their mouths, please use a disinfecting wipe/spray to clean the toy and place it in the bin on the window sill near the main entrance.

Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipe donations are appreciated!

March volunteer shifts are now open! Please sign up (https://signup.com/go/yMZWdpW) for a spot as soon as you can, since March starts tomorrow (Sunday).

Again, we can only be successful in building a great community play space if our members are committed and fulfill their volunteer requirements. Thanks to all of you for your support, and hope to see at the upcoming potluck on March 15.

(You'll note that we have only opened up Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday hours since we had almost zero volunteers for Tuesdays and Fridays in February. If there are volunteers who would like to add a regular shift that they can cover, please let us know and we can do that!)
