Providence fire fighters do not just work in our city. We are members of the community we are sworn to protect - serving as youth coaches, participating in our schools and churches, and taking an active role in our neighborhoods. 799 is also a strong supporter of numerous local charitable foundations and causes. Local 799 serves over five hundred active and retired members. All officers of the Union serve as firefighters in the Providence Fire Department and are elected by the general membership every two years. Local 799 is proud to be one of the oldest and largest locals in the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO-CLC. The best interests of Local 799 are the best interests of the people of Providence.

Twenty five years ago this morning, 343 FDNY firefighters went to work, answered the call, and never came home.

We remember them today. We remember the brothers and sisters lost in the years since to illness from Ground Zero. And we remember the families and firehouses that have carried that weight for a quarter century.

Never Forget!

The addition of Impact Rescue 10 will help give our firefighters and EMTs the tools to deliver the best and highest standard care to our neighbors more quickly and efficiently by reducing our need to use Mutual Aid from surrounding communities.

Local 799 has long advocated for expansion within our Rescue Division. With our city’s growing population, retention of these vital pieces of apparatus and additional staffing is absolutely crucial. By codifying each Impact Rescue into our contract we will ensure these essential and life saving units will continue to be accessible to the community into the future.
