Mathewson Street Friendship Breakfast

Mathewson Street Friendship Breakfast Mathewson Street Sunday Friendship
Breakfast is open. Doors open at 7 a.m. The meal doesn’t just feed the attendees.

Each Sunday morning over 200 men, women and children in need gather for an informal prayer service followed by a shared meal. Today, the food for the breakfast is purchased and prepared by a small number of committed families from the community. Our weekly menu is simple and
nutritious, including: eggs, potatoes, sausage, french toast, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, cold cereals, juice and coffee. Th

e meal serves to bring together those who give and those who receive, working side by side to prepare, serve, clear and clean in a relationship of mutual
respect. Often, people in need are not accustomed to feeling useful
or needed. This “ownership” serves to empower the attendees through their own contributions to one another. Together we are creating a community that embraces an ethic of caring.

So grateful for our friends from the San Miguel School in Providence. They came to Mathewson Street for a day of service. This is a place that truly gets it. The school is one of the most welcoming environments you will ever walk into, and they place tremendous importance on giving back to the community. Their presence inspired and lifted up our community last week. We are so blessed for our friendship with the students and faculty from San Miguel!

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Ralph Davis earlier this week. Ralph has been a friend of the Mathewson Street community for many years. There were very few Sundays over the last decade where you didn’t see Ralph lending a hand at our Sunday morning Friendship Breakfast, but more importantly, transforming lives through his constant friendship to so many. Ralph went above and beyond when it came to truly understanding what is means to be a friend. Our community would see him out every Thursday night, serving a meal, all around the city of Providence connecting with those he cared about. He dedicated his life to helping everyone around him. We will miss our friend, for his kindness, his humor, and his love that he showed all of us. Rest easy friend.

This community truly gets what it means to be there for each other on the journey through the joys and the obstacles. Thank you for all the years of support. We are blessed for the friendship.

It is with great sadness to share the news of the passing of our beloved Gregg Carter on June 17, 2025. For years Gregg has been a key leader here at Mathewson Street United Methodist Church, leading Bible studies, leading worship service, but most importantly, being a presence for so many friends who come through our doors. He transformed lives through that presence and constant words of encouragement. We will miss him dearly. May we all keep Lisa and the rest of the Carter family in our thoughts and prayers.

Once again, Bombas has come through with another donation of 5000 socks to Mathewson Street Church. A great company doing great things. None of this would be possible without Beth and Jim Corrente!! Years ago Beth established a relationship with them and we have been getting donations annually ever since. Thank you, Beth and Jim for your love and support and hard work over the years, we are so grateful for you and Bethany Church.

A very big thank you to the AS220 Youth Fashion Crew for organizing an amazing Fashion Show last weekend at the Public Shop & Gallery!! As part of the event, the youth collected clothing donations that were given to Mathewson St. United Methodist Church and Haus of Codec ♥️ These are just a few of the outfits that our volunteers put together with the clothing that was donated to our clothing "boutique"! We are so grateful to have such thoughtful neighbors like AS220 in Downtown Providence!
