September is National Su***de Prevention Month. ❤️

The Rhode Island Indian Council is proud to stand with our community and our partner, Horizon Healthcare Partners, to raise awareness about su***de prevention and the importance of culturally responsive mental health support.

Our people are facing a serious crisis. In 2022, non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native people had a su***de rate 91% higher than the U.S. population overall, according to the CDC.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community.

Through our partnership with 988, we are working to raise awareness, connect our people with support, and help create pathways to hope and healing.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of su***de or experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988. You don't have to face it alone.

RIIC is excited to host our Annual Powwow at Rocky Point again this year! We look forward to gathering our Native communities together for a day of culture, connection, community, and support.

💙 In partnership with 988, RIIC will be bringing awareness to su***de prevention, crisis support, and mental health resources within our Native communities. We hope to create a space where everyone feels supported and knows that help is available.

🥕 The Rhode Island Food Bank will also be joining us again this year to provide fresh produce and food resources for Native community members.
