Meet Genevieve, or as her family and friends call her, Gigi đź’–

Gigi was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL) in November 2023, right after Thanksgiving, a heartbreaking shock for her family. But with quick action from a devoted medical team and unwavering faith, Gigi began treatment immediately and has been incredibly strong ever since.

Through daily chemo and monthly infusions, Gigi rarely goes a day without a smile or a giggle. She lights up the clinic with her joy and loves visiting her nurse and doctor “friends.” 🩷✨ She’s a true girly girl who enjoys playing, crafting, and getting thoughtful cards from those who are cheering her on. 💌

She rang the bell in February 2026, and her strength and resilience continue to inspire everyone around her. Her siblings are her biggest comforters, and she’s already touched countless hearts, including ours.

She recently received her bald doll from Glimmer of Hope and absolutely loves it đź’ť

Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of John Paul Macri. 🤍

We had the privilege of meeting John Paul in May, when he joined us alongside the Tough2Gether Foundation & A Moment of Magic for our Best Day Ever. We’ll always remember his smile, his spirit, and the joy he brought into the room.

John Paul was so much more than his diagnosis. He was funny, curious, deeply faithful, a huge Star Wars fan, and one of the proudest JMU Dukes fans you could ever meet.

We are holding his parents, Katie and Nick, his brother Luke, and everyone who loved John Paul especially close to our hearts. We feel incredibly grateful that our paths crossed and that we were able to share one truly special day with him.

Rest peacefully, John Paul. You will always be part of the Glimmer family. 🤍

Meet some of the incredible woman from the the 2026–2027 cohort of the Courageous Moms Collective. 🎗️🩷

These portraits are beautiful, but what we hope each of these moms sees when she looks at them is so much more than that.

She is still her.

When your child is diagnosed with cancer, life becomes appointments, medications, scans, treatment plans and simply getting through the next day. Moms can spend months or years in fight or flight mode, putting themselves second because their child needs them.

And when treatment ends, that doesn’t always end with it.

That’s something we’re focusing on even more this year. CMC welcomes moms whose children are currently in treatment, moms who have lost a child to cancer, and moms whose children are up to two years post-treatment.

Our year-long New England cohort brings moms together every month for fun experiences, connection and a chance to step outside of being a caregiver for a few hours; to laugh, feel beautiful, meet women who understand, and simply be themselves. đź©·

We kicked off our new cohort at Medici Lounge with lunch, professional portraits and some much-deserved pampering. Thank you to Sue for once again opening this beautiful space to our moms, and to Breanna Marie Photography, Kate Baird, tess.elizabeth.beauty, Alexandra Soares & Francesca DelPonte | RI Hair Stylist🖤 for helping us remind these women just how beautiful they are — inside and out. ✨

A HUGE shoutout to Megan, our new Family Engagement Manager, who is taking the lead on CMC and planned and ran this entire first session! 🥹🩷

And thank you to the Lawson Charitable Foundation and Papitto Opportunity Connection for making this program possible.

To our 2026–2027 moms: this year is for YOU. 🎗️💕

✨ Meet Megan! ✨

We’re so excited to officially introduce Megan Pilger, Glimmer of Hope’s Family Engagement Manager! 🩷

Megan has officially been in her role for a month now, but her story with Glimmer started long before that. She spent three years volunteering with us and the past year serving on our Board, always showing up for our kids and families in such a genuine and caring way. We couldn’t be happier to now have her as part of our team full-time.

As our Family Engagement Manager, Megan is really at the heart of our work with families. She helps welcome new families into Glimmer, stays connected with them throughout their journey, coordinates opportunities and experiences for our kids, and makes sure families know they have someone they can reach out to when they need support. She’ll also be working closely with our programs and helping us continue to grow the ways we show up for children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

Megan brings more than 15 years of experience in Human Resources and people leadership, but what makes her so special in this role is the way she connects with people. She is compassionate, thoughtful, an incredible advocate, and someone who genuinely cares about getting to know each of our families.

Originally from Western New York, Megan now calls Rhode Island home with her 5-year-old daughter, Winter. She loves traveling, Disney, music, reading, and creating special memories with the people she loves. ✨

We’ve already loved having Megan with us this past month, and we’re so excited for everything ahead. Please help us officially welcome her to the Glimmer team! 🩷✨

This is what mentorship can look like. đź©·

Meet Brooke & Bailey! Bailey is currently battling ATRT, and Brooke, a local foodie and content creator, has had the opportunity to be her mentor through Glimmer of Hope.

Our Glimmer Gala Mentor Program was created to give kids battling cancer something that can be so important during treatment: a person in their corner who is there just for them. Someone to look up to, spend time with, try new things with, and build a genuine friendship with outside of the hospital and everything that comes with a diagnosis.

We thoughtfully match each child with a mentor based on their personality, interests, and the kind of connection we think they’ll share. For Bailey and Brooke, that has meant lots of fun, photos, laughs, and memories together. 🥹

And soon, we’ll be welcoming a new group of mentors into the Glimmer family.

Applications for aspiring mentors will be released soon! If you’re looking for a meaningful way to get involved with Glimmer of Hope and build a special relationship with one of the incredible kids we serve, keep an eye on our page for all the details. ✨

A little late posting this one, but we couldn’t let it go without sharing 💗

The morning before the 2026 Glimmer Gala, we woke up to Glimmer on the front page of The Providence Journal.

The article shared so much of what makes the Gala special; our kids, Ella’s story, and why we do this every year.

One of our favorite parts was hearing from Bella’s mom, Sara:

“Bella told me … it’s not fair that she has cancer, but she was glad that she got to meet Alicia. She added that to her list of things she gets to do because she has cancer.”

It also brought us back to where the runway started. Before Glimmer of Hope, Ella walked in a fashion show for a different fundraiser. Her mom kept telling Ali that if Glimmer ever had a fashion show, Ella would have wanted to be part of it because “Ella loved it so much.”

That’s really what the Gala is about. Giving our kids a night where cancer isn’t the thing that defines them and they get to just have FUN, dress up, walk the runway and be celebrated.

Seeing “RUNWAY HEROES” across the front page was pretty surreal.

Thank you to Paul Edward Parker and The Providence Journal for sharing our story, and a huge thank you to In Toone Communication for always working behind the scenes to help more people hear about Glimmer and the families we serve. đź’•

Still one of our favorite moments from Gala week.
