Big voices, real impact 💙

Our youth showed up at the State House on Wednesday to advocate for out-of-school time programs and support the Building Opportunity of Out of School Time (BOOST) Bill (H7501/S2452) alongside Rhode Island Afterschool Network.

From sharing their experiences with leaders to showing up where decisions are made, they reminded everyone why investing in youth and families matters.

We are so proud of these young leaders for using their voices to create change! 💫

We need your voice! BOOST Bill (Building Opportunity of Out-of-School Time) will be heard in House Finance Committee on 4/28 at 4:30pm in Providence and we are calling on all OST Champions to submit letters of support and attend the hearing.

seeks to strengthen OST through investing in prevention, connection and community-based supports to ensure Rhode Island youth have relationships and resources they need to thrive.

You can make a difference:
- Submit a letter of support (testimony template in our Linktree)
- Attend the hearing with your community and express your support

In-person support is powerful, but if you can’t attend, written testimonies are just as important and still make your voice heard.

We look forward to having you there!

We’re excited to gather in person for our 2nd Annual OST Impact Awards. This is a special celebration of the incredible staff, leaders, and organizations who make Out-of-School Time programs thrive across Rhode Island. Join us as we recognize this year’s nominees, share in community, and uplift the impact happening every day in the field.

The afternoon will include brunch, awards, raffle prizes, and meaningful time to connect with peers. We’ll also be preparing together for advocacy at the State House on the 30th, as well as workshopping what those in the field want to see from RIAN in the year ahead.

Nominate your champions and RSVP via the link in bio. We can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🎉🏅

Next week is ! Organized by Collective for Youth Empowerment in STEM & Society (CYESS) and the Afterschool Alliance, Youth Voice Week is an opportunity to amplify youth voices and celebrate how afterschool and summer programs empower young people to take action on issues they care about.

Learn more at cyess.org/projects/youth-voice-week
Afterschool and summer programs provide unique spaces where young people can explore issues affecting their communities, develop leadership skills, and take meaningful action. When we center youth voice, we don’t just prepare young people for future civic participation - we recognize them as leaders and problem-solvers right now.

Throughout the week of April 13-17, programs, organizations, and young people are encouraged to share content that showcases youth-led advocacy, community projects, and civic action.

🤖🌟National Robotics Week is a time to celebrate
Rhode Island students engaged in robotics and STEM learning. Through designing, building, and programming robots, students gain real-world skills, confidence, and the joy of discovery.

This winter, a group of students at Calcutt Middle School afterschool program in Central Falls built soccer playing robots with kits from Project Lead the Way 🥅🦾

We are proud of our young peoples’ curiosity, creativity, and persistence. Keep exploring, experimenting, and innovating!

Too many families are locked out of opportunity due to cost, access, or availability. But the solutions already exist within the strength of our communities.

At RIAN, we’re not just supporting programs.
We’re building a statewide ecosystem of opportunity.

✨ When we connect, partnerships unlock new futures
✨ When we convene, the field grows stronger together
✨ When we advocate, systems begin to change

Your support powers this work. A gift to RIAN means:
⚙️More students connected to career pathways
🏅More educators recognized and supported
📈More communities accessing high-quality programs

Together, we can ensure every young person in Rhode Island has a place to learn, grow, and belong beyond the school day.
