Ideas for NE Undocumented students support organization

As an ad-hoc organization from the Brown Immigrants Rights Coalition (BIRC), IDEAS for NE is committed to supporting and defending undocumented students. As a community involvement organization, IDEAS for NE will be active at the local, state, and national level to advocate for equal access to higher education for all. These efforts will include community organizing community education and empowerment, political advocacy, and fundraising.

Following hours of testimony on both sides of the issue, the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education Monday voted unanimously to offer undocumented students in-state tuition at the state’s public university and colleges.

Allowing undocumented immigrants to get in-state tuition at Rhode Island’s public colleges would increase non-citizen enrollment by 31% and actually make money for the schools, according to a comprehensive recent study of the issue.
