Awesome and full day of enjoying the outdoors and beautiful weather at a couple cleanup events!

Got to attend an event by for my first time. If you haven’t checked them out, definitely do. They are a great group, the event today (right behind Esek Hopkins, the school I work at) was awesome and very successful, you can see the haul in the first pic. They provide all necessary materials, and even have some food and beverages for volunteers at the end. I learned a lot from them today and definitely look forward to coming to more of their events!

Then I went over to Eagle Square for the first Trash Free PVD event with a volunteer! We both had a long day (she also went to the Cozy Rhody cleanup) but it was very rewarding! Even though we were only out for an hour, we were able to pick up quite a bit, as you can see in the 2nd pic.

After all of that, I got to go down to Narragansett Town Beach with my girlfriend and dog. Even though it was a long day, I got to spend it all enjoying the world we live in. What more can you ask for?

I had two realizations today.

I got my this morning and am working a shift tonight, so I wanted to preserve me energy levels but with all of the awesome Earth Day cleanups going on I also wanted to get out and do what I could. At first I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t doing more, like the amazing folks in Grace Cemetery today, but as I went down my street and around Dexter Park, a lot of neighbors stopped to talk and thank me. It goes to show that it’s not how much you do, but just that you’re out there doing something. Consistent, small actions >> occasional, big ones.

The second thing I realized is that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission, especially when it comes to something like picking up trash. I have been waiting to hear back from the state to see if I could get onto the grounds of the Armory, but it’s been some time and I haven’t heard anything. Today, though, I met a group that decided to take action first and ask questions later. I am going to send a follow up to the state to see if I can get into the back lot (which still has a decent amount of trash in it), but today made me realize when you’re doing something to improve the community, it’s more beneficial to give notice and then just get to it.

Happy Eath Day everyone! If you live in the West End, check out ’s website for more information on their week-long cleanup event, going until April 30th!

The Cranston Street Armory is a local landmark and a source of pride in the West End. Sadly, there’s often a lot of trash on the grounds. I’m trying to get permission to get behind the fence, especially on the south and East sides of the building to pick up some of it! Hoping to be able to get in there next weekend, but will post again when I have a set date 😀
In the meantime, I’ll be heading back to Major Park tomorrow, and also picking up some trash along Wendell St between Messer and Ellery. Feel free to come join if you’re in the area! Even picking up a few handfuls of trash keeps us heading in the right direction 👍🏼
And don’t miss the annual spring cleanup hosted by April 22-30! If you take before and after pics you will even be entered in a raffle, and current members can check out tools! 👏🏼 For more info, check out their website at wbna.org

Successful cleanup today at Major Park! Spent a few hours enjoying the cool, sunny weather with my dog, talking with some neighbors, and picking up trash. In the next month, I’m planning to reach out to some local neighborhood associations and non-profits to get some advice on how to effectively run cleanup events, spread the word, and expand the scale of Trash Free PVD! I’ll also be adding to the website (www.trashfreepvd.com, link in bio) this week. Stay tuned!!! 😎
