Pronounced chick-a-hom-a-nee, Indians Eastern Division Native American Tribe. Chickahominy can be interpreted as "crushed corn people", "coarse pound corn people, or "coarse ground corn people", the preferred meaning is "coarse ground corn people".

Affordable childcare has always been hard to come by in Charles City County.

When members of the Chickahominy tribe received federal childcare subsidies, they realized there weren’t enough centers to handle the number of families seeking care.

The tribe is planning its own $15 million center that would accommodate at least 100 kids. It would be open to Indigenous and non-tribal children.
