Prosper Rotary Club launches funding program for Prosper Veterans Memorial Monument
It’s a short, simple phrase that encapsulates a multitude of emotions, a sense of deep gratitude, an abiding feeling of admiration, an unshakable respect, and perhaps most importantly, a boundless expression of
appreciation. Five words – “Thank you for your service” – while a meaningful and heartfelt way to convey thankfulness to US veterans, still leaves many with a yearning to demonstrate their gratitude in more profound and concrete ways. In Prosper, the local Rotary Club has committed its resources to creating a way to provide residents and supporters just such a way to channel their thankfulness in a lasting and enduring way. On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the Prosper Rotary Club announced the initiation of their fundraising campaign to construct the Prosper Veterans Memorial Monument. The monument, has a location chosen, lacks only the financing for its completion. Cost of the construction and associated improvements is $450,000. The site of the impressive three-foot high six point star base is the so-called “circle” in what many describe as the geographical center of Frontier Park, 1551 Frontier Parkway. The location was ceded to the monument’s construction in 2015 by the Prosper Town Council at the request of the Prosper Historical Society, which had birthed the idea of the monument and had initially taken on the task of initiating the construction. Following the allotted five-year period that the Council allowed for construction, the Historical Society recently relinquished the project to the Prosper Rotary Club. The Rotarians gladly accepted the challenge and immediately began planning for the monument’s funding. First on the list is a commitment from the club membership has committed to donate $25,000 to kick off the drive and then $25,000 in matching funds a year supported to the construction fund. The money will be donated from the Rotary Club’s coffers, including earnings from its highly popular flag program. Residents and businesses wishing to have the Rotary Club place a full-size US flag on their property during national holidays and observances can contact the membership by visiting prosperrotary.org/flags. The flags are placed and recovered by the Rotary Club’s volunteers, making it an easy and carefree way to demonstrate patriotism and support the monument’s construction. The Rotarians will also continue to sell personalized bricks that will form the walking plaza surrounding the monument. These are available at various levels and can be customized to honor individuals or express support in other ways. Bricks can be ordered by visiting: https://bricksrus.com/donorsite/prosperveteransmemorial. Donations from organizations, corporations, businesses, families, and individuals at any and all levels are gratefully accepted as well, making the monument a true community effort. Levels include Center Star - $100,000; Memorial Walls - $50,000; Bronze Military Seal - $25,000; Diamond - $15,000; Platinum - $10,000; Gold - $7,500; Silver - $5,000; and Bronze - $2,500. Funds can be donated now or a pledge can be made to donate the funds over time. Appropriate recognition will be provided to donors at each level. In addition, donors can Adopt a Veteran, by donating $500 which includes an authentication certificate and the engraving of the veteran’s information on the wall. A $1,000 donation allows for the adoption of three veterans and accompanying certificates and engraving. More information on donations and their levels of recognition can be found at
Prosperrotary.org/veteransmemorial. Thanking a veteran for their service orally is most certainly an appropriate way to show appreciation. The Prosper Rotary Club, however, is now offering a way to express that gratitude in a way that forms a lasting and enduring expression accessible for generations to come. Harlan Jefferson
