This badge invites Scouts to explore the values, history, and human stories behind military service. Designed to deepen understanding and foster respect, this badge connects Scouts with the heritage of our Armed Forces and the individuals who have served our nation with courage and commitment.

Through hands-on learning, meaningful conversations, and active community involvement, Scouts develop a richer appreciation for service, leadership, peace, and patriotism.

🚨 Scouts BSA Advancement Updates Effective January 1, 2026

Planned improvements to Scouts BSA merit badge requirements take effect on January 1, 2026. These updates are designed to help Scouts explore modern career paths and hobbies, develop practical skills, and engage with current topics—while maintaining the quality and tradition of the Scouts BSA advancement program.

More than 80 merit badges have been thoughtfully updated based on feedback from Scout leaders, subject-matter experts, and current trends in technology, safety, and outdoor education.

• Updated technology and real-world skills

Scouting America’s merit badge program continues to expand, this time with the launch of two badges aimed at giving Scouts some of the skills needed to be successful in our constantly evolving digital world.

The Cybersecurity merit badge is designed to provide a comprehensive look at the world of digital security, equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of the online world.

The Artificial Intelligence merit badge introduces Scouts to the world of AI, including the ethical considerations that come with this advanced technology.

New Cybersecurity & AI Merit Badges Launch Sept 22

Scouting America is launching two, new merit badges, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence on September 22.

These innovative merit badges reflect Scouting America’s commitment to preparing youth for the digital age.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Merit Badge is designed to introduce Scouts to the rapidly evolving world of AI. This badge will help Scouts understand AI's applications, ethical considerations, and the role it plays in daily life.

The Cybersecurity Merit Badge is focused on digital safety. The badge will teach Scouts essential skills needed to navigate today’s online world responsibly and securely.

For more information on requirements for the new merit badges, visit the Scouting America Merit Badges Requirements site beginning September 22.

Printed merit badge pamphlets will not be produced for these.
