No suprise with this one...

For the first time in modern history, a generation scores lower than the one that raised it. The reason sits on every school desk in America.

Tomorrow morning HB 497 will be voted on by the members of the House of the Ky General Assembly. This bill forces a bigger financial burden on children of people who were killed in the line of duty or students who are disabled. That is bad. However, the most egregious part of the bill has language that essentially destroys the Donovan Scholarship in the state of Kentucky. This program has been in effect since 1976 and allows senior citizens to attend classes at any higher ed institution in the state of Ky. Seniors can only attend a class if there is an empty seat in the course. There is little or
no cost to the higher ed institution.

TONIGHT, CAN YOU pick up your phone and call the legislative hotline? Please tell the message service:

you oppose HB 497 and you especially oppose the language that essentially ends the Donovan Scholarship Program. Ask the legislators to support Amendment 1 proposed by Representative Lisa Wilner.

Her amendment cleverly just eliminates all language about the Donovan Scholarship program in this bill thus restoring the Donovan Scholarship in full.
