Out and About Kentuckiana raises funds in order to cover costs of events and transportation for seniors or those with disabilities, such as a concert or a ballgame, that most of us take for granted. Our mission is to improve community integration and inclusion in our community. In the near future, we plan to bring the Cycling Without Age Program to Louisville, KY . Cycling Without Age was found
ed in 2012 by Ole Kassow in Copenhagen, Denmark. This program has since grown rapidly and now has expanded to an astounding 37 countries and over 1000 chapters.Cycling Without Age is about intergenerational relationships, the sharing of stories and making memories of a lifetime. This program is run with the help of generous volunteers. To make it possible for elders to get outside, Out and About Kentuckinana, provides the opportunity to ride in a three-wheeled bicycle called a rickshaw. Volunteers pilot the rickshaw, allowing residents to get outside and visit destinations that they would not normally see on their own. This program encourages the community to come together to create relationships and experience new things. It also allows elders to relive the memories of their past. We all remember looking for the pile of bicycles in the driveway in order to find out where our friends were. Cycling Without Age helps to make that connection and gives elders the chance to experience the joys they once had riding bicycles in the community once again. By allowing the elders of the community to get outside and interact with others, Cycling Without Age creates a sense of happiness and belonging that can not be replicated in any other environment.
