The last item we want to discuss before tonight's event at 6pm with 's Mentorship Program is: What happens after you apply?
Unfortunately, it is extremely common for candidates to not hear anything from the company or recruiter. Or you might not hear back for a looooong time, making the hiring process long and drawn out. This is where your networking skills come in handy. You can elect to follow up with the person who received your application (if you even know...you may not most of the time), or with the person who interviewed you. But you're not guaranteed a response, even if it improves your chances. If you network, you're more likely to have someone to follow up with! For more networking advice, and some advice on how to approach someone, check out our past posts in our last campaign!

One last tip to help you as you're applying: applying for cannabis jobs is a NUMBERS GAME.
Like selling anything else, when you are selling yourself to potential employers, this is a numbers game. Apply to as many jobs as you can, employ as many job seeking methods as possible, and you'll eventually get something you're happy with. But you gotta keep going. The people who get their dream cannabis job will be the ones who keep pressing for the job they want no matter how many no's they hear. Some people get lucky and find a job they like right away. That is not everyone, but don't let it discourage if this is what you really want. Patience with action!

If you're just starting your search, you've probably noticed that cannabis has a lot of temp positions, like seasonal cultivation workers, brand ambassadors for big events, etc. So, are temp jobs a good thing?
While it can be a good foot in the door, the biggest thing to watch out for is that it's a legit job! You don't want to leave yourself in a position where you're not getting paid for the work you've done. Make sure you are legally employed (have a badge, background check, etc). Also, make sure you have a solid contract and know the state's temp employment laws (can they cancel you before you start work, can they legally terminate the contract before its completed, etc).

Still not sure how you should be applying for your next job(s)? You need to know on some level where you're at in your career in order to know what the best approach to applying for a job is. How to approach applying for jobs will largely depend on the types of jobs and companies to which you are applying.
For example, if you're looking for a fresh start, don't have any experience, and just want a foot in the door, you're looking for entry level jobs! Best approach for this type of job is to cast a wide net. If you're an experienced profressional with an established specialty, networking and help from recruiters is probably a better bet.

Let's go through the pros and cons of applying through a recruiter and applying directly to a company.
A good recruiter will spend hours helping you prepare for interviews and give you helpful advice. They can even control the speed of the interview process and negotiate your salary. Recruiters can give you constructive feedback/advice on your resume and interviews, too.
However, recruiters often have a Lock-in period. Once you apply through one recruiter, you may have to stick with them for a little while. The number of jobs they present to you could be limited so there could be roles that are more suitable for your background you don't know about.
When applying to a company directly, there are fewer chances for miscommunication without the middleman. The external pressure is removed since you're not answering to a recruiter (they can be aggressive,, too!).
You'll also be able to peruse the company's job openings yourself instead of getting a limited snap shot of jobs someone else has deemed a fit for you.
On the other hand, feedback is rare and internal hiring managers who DO provide feedback don't usually share any useful details. Not knowing can be worse than rejection. You will go into the interview process without someone to help guide you, so preparation will depend on how well you're able to research and prepare.

Now that our resume and cover letters are ready to go, its time to talk about where to apply for the jobs we wany. There are three main places you can apply for a job: (1) through a job board like Indeed or the one on LinkedIn; (2) through a recruiter or a head hunter, or (3) directly through the company that would be hiring you.
Each of these avenues has it own unique pros and cons, and giving yourself the best chance of getting that coveted interview is going to mean applying to multiple jobs using all three of these possible paths.

One important note: do not apply to the same job through different avenues, especially through a recruiter in addition to elsewhere. Why? Because you may cause a conflict for the relationship between the recruiter and the company! But more on that later.
Next, we're going to cover the specific pros and cons of applying through a recuriter vs applying directly for a job. In the meantime, don't forget to register for our virtual joint event with 's Mentorship Program tonight Wednesday October 12th at 6:00pm EST. Eventbrite link in bio.

Before you apply for any jobs, there are a couple of things you need to do to give yourself the best shot at winning that interview.
First, you've gotta update that resume and cover letter for the job you want! Use the job post(s) you are most excited about as inspiration; borrowed phrases and words will make your resume experience sound like just the right fit.
Throw some niche and specific keywords in your application to help you get noticed! You can use the suggested keywords you see in our CannaCareers Applying for the Job worksheet here, or do some research yourself.
Refresh your references! It's always a good idea to keep your references as up to date as much as possible.
For more help and a helpful template on where to start, check out our worksheet on our CannaCareers Webpage (link in bio). And while you're there, don't forget to sign up for our virtual joint event with 's Mentorship Program Wednesday October 12th at 6:00pm EST.

📣📣📣LAST LAST

Here’s another Spliffnic’22 product highlight.

🤴🏾Meet and learn more about the brand:

“King of Treats” is owned by two entrepreneurs from Harlem. Rebel and Higher Learning are the owners who had a thought in 2011-2012 & manifested it into their reality in 2021. They want to give the people an experience with edibles that most had yet to enjoy. Edibles has a negative stigma and “King Of Treats” is destined to turn that around. Being creative and open to taking risks, and not afraid of failing we make it our mission to satisfy the people & give you the experience you’ve been yearning for.

🐉👸🏾Meet WOCC and tomorrow at Spliffnic’ to have the KING OF TREATS EXPERIENCE💚
