Our latest film The Forgotten was part of most recent curriculum. Dov Stucker, Christie Beveridge and Emily Taylor are the ones heading up the program
that aims to empower young people as citizens, students and community members through authentic, collaborative real-world experiences.
We were beyond excited to share the film and our experiences around climate induced weather events, filmmaking and most importantly the strength of community. and joined the class of Juniors and Seniors for the afternoon session. It was inspiring to meet the students and share ideas and insights. We feel all young people should have the opportunity to experience this kind of education. Keep up the great work BCL!

Looking back at 2021 with gratitude. Our short documentary on Vermont’s response to the onset of Covid-19 really made an impact and we are proud of how well it did on the initial film festival run. (And it’s still going!) Though we are not through this pandemic yet, the people and businesses in this film still shine and are an example of the resiliency of
If we could get back to that focus of , , and thoughtful responses we feel we would get through this and anything.
You can still view the film on and it will also be coming to soon too!

The Long Island Shellfish Restoration Project is a very ambitious project from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation which looks to improve water quality, restore shellfish population/diversity and create sustainable jobs along with educational opportunities for coastal communities. Working in conjunction with Stony Brook University, Cornell Cooperative Extension, town municipalities, local businesses and numerous volunteers, the LISRP continues to produce, plant, and monitor shellfish across Long Island. The sanctuary sites where the shellfish are being restore are in Bellport Bay, Huntington Harbor, Shinnecock Bay, South Oyster Bay, and Hempstead Bay.

As of the end of October, Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program Gobler Laboratory reported that they had completed their year long project of planting 1.5 million adult hard clams into Shinnecock Bay. These 1.5 million clams add to the estimated 3 million clams which have been placed in the bay over the last 10 years. A massive accomplishment and milestone for the project. It is important to continue to shed light on these environmental projects to help the public understand why projects like these are tax dollars well spent and the impact conservation has on all of the residents of New York.

When the conditions are right, the entire family at Wiley Side Farm gets together for the hay harvest. The hay is cut, dried, and shifted into rows. Then, the hay is bailed and stored in a dry place for the cold winter ahead. Lots of heavy equipment and lifting helps stockpile food for all of the farm animals.

A single bison needs about 24 pounds of dry forage or hay per day to sustain itself. If a two string bale weighs about 55 pounds on average, the Wiley Side Farm herd of about 20 bison will consume the equivalent of roughly 9 bales a day. With around 100 solid winter days in Vermont, the bison have the ability to consume upwards of 48,000 pounds of hay in a winter...
