“Heritage” (what our small town is celebrating this weekend!) isn’t something that happens overnight. Heritage is what’s developed and passed down over the course of time — hopefully the keeping of good things and the fixing of the bad things and the refining of the in-between things. If our heritage isn’t something we’re proud of, it can be hard to move forward from that. If our heritage is something we’re proud of, we might always be grasping for a reality that currently doesn’t look exactly the same as what we remember or what to hang on to. And yet we do want to further the good things we’ve been handed, and if we haven’t been handed good things, we sure don’t want to just keep passing those on without choosing wisely.

This weekend, we honor our fathers who have made a lot of decisions on our behalf. Some of them have passed things to us wisely, and some of them haven’t.

This is our moment to make our own wise choices — to choose gratefulness for what we do have, to handle carefully what we don’t, and to honor what is honorable in the lives of those we love.

Heritage is all about keeping the good. 🤍

I was just in a conversation about how the relationships and the things that we invest in are often long-term — we don’t see the impact right away and we also don’t always see accurately what the impact is going to be. I’m sure there’s many things Dad taught me that he thought might never land— but they actually did. 😉 He packed many things into my little brain with lots of love and prayer and a fair amount of humor… and I still have those things. And in fact, the further I get in my own parenting journey, the more regularly I’m pulling those same things out. 🙃 Grateful for him this Fathers Day week and for all the men who give and invest wisely in their people — your impact is beyond what you can see right now. 🤍

Happy Monday! We love a good rainy Monday — coffee and creating is what we’re up to this morning! There’s lots going on at Sparrowdale this week and this summer; sharing a summary here this morning!

Other upcoming workshops include our Studio at Sparrowdale: Self-Guided Watercolor session on July 3 — this workshop is more informal but the laid back environment allows us to invite children 10+ to participate on their own - so the perfect thing for a fun morning out with friends!
