Is it possible to make winter break meaningful and rejuvenating at Princeton University? Yes! Breaks can be a great chance to take a step back and reflect on yourself: your goals, ambitions, social surroundings, and more. Thinking about these things can help us to better understand where we currently are and where we want to go. Check out these tips from Gianna Melchionda '24 with the Pace Center.

Without the overwhelming nature of everyday life at Princeton, breaks can be a great chance to take a step back and reflect on yourself: your goals, ambitions, social surroundings, and more. Thinking about these things can help us to better understand where we currently are and where we want to go.

“You have pursued a range of community service, advocacy, activism, policy, and social entrepreneurship. Your values, your relationships, the way you build community, and your mindset that responding to the needs of the world is a societal responsibility - that brings us together today," said Kimberly de los Santos, executive director at the Pace Center, as she welcomed a large crowd at the Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding to honor students, faculty, and community leaders for their contributions and commitment to service and civic engagement at Princeton University.

The John H. Pace, Jr. ’39 Center for Civic Engagement recently honored six students and community members for their commitment, dedication, and innovation in the realm of service and civic engagement.

“It is important to understand that we seek a government-to-government relationship,” said Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. “It would be a dream to be independent, but what we seek and what we demand is co-governance over our territories.”

Principal Chief Standing Bear reflected on the critical role of the Osage nation vis-à-vis federal law, the creation of the FBI, and environmental resources management and sovereignty policy in conversation with Anthropology graduate student Noah Collins (Cherokee Nation/White Mountain Apache Tribe) and Astrophysics graduate student Rodrigo Córdova (Osage), as part of an event with Anthropology at Princeton University. The event was co-sponsored by the Pace Center.

Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear discussed his experience navigating federal laws and relationships as Principal Chief of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma at a talk on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Aaron Burr Hall.
