An update from the Center for Barth Studies.

"I learned in late July that the center was awarded a third Scholarly Editions and Translations grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). These grants enable the translation of Barth’s work into English to continue. Most scholars or students of Karl Barth do not know how little of his work has been translated into English. Most know that Barth’s wrote the Church Dogmatics, but many don’t know that he also wrote the Collected Works, which is 57 volumes of his sermons, academic works, shorter writings, correspondence, and conversations. Of the 57 volumes that currently exist in the Collected Works, only 21 volumes have been translated and published in English to date. The Karl Barth-Archiv in Basel estimates that another 15–20 volumes will be added to the Collected Works in the coming years, since all of his manuscripts have not been edited yet! The translation project of Barth’s work into English will go well beyond my lifetime, and I’m thrilled that the NEH continues to invest in making this project a reality."

The Rev. Canon Dr. Kara Slade is Canon Theologian of the Diocese of New Jersey and Adjunct Professor of Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, where she directs the Concentration in Episcopal and Anglican Studies. Her research spans Karl Barth, Søren Kierkegaard, and the ethics of science and technology — interests shaped by an earlier career as a NASA research engineer before she earned a second doctorate, in Christian theology and ethics, at Duke. She holds a PhD in mechanical engineering and materials science, also from Duke.

Eric Gregory is Professor of Religion at Princeton University and former Chair of its Humanities Council, working at the intersection of religious and philosophical ethics, political theory, and the role of religion in public life. He is the author of Politics and the Order of Love: An Augustinian Ethic of Democratic Citizenship (University of Chicago Press) and is at work on The In-Gathering of Strangers: Global Justice and Political Theology. A Rhodes Scholar and Harvard graduate, he holds a doctorate in Religious Studies from Yale and is a recipient of Princeton's President's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Kendall Cox is Director of Academic Affairs at the Templeton Honors College and Assistant Professor of Liberal Studies & Ethics, where she also co-directs the Bioethics & Medical Humanities minor. She holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia and an MDiv from Regent College. Her book Prodigal Christ (Baylor University Press) reads creative retellings of the Parable of the Prodigal Son in Julian of Norwich and Karl Barth, and her work has appeared in The Journal of Reformed Theology, Interpretation, and Syndicate.

Philip G. Ziegler is Professor of Christian Dogmatics at the University of Aberdeen, working in systematic and historical theology, ecumenics, and the philosophy of religion. He is the author of Militant Grace: The Apocalyptic Turn and the Future of Christian Theology and Doing Theology When God Is Forgotten: The Theological Achievement of Wolf Krötke, and series editor of T&T Clark Studies in Systematic Theology. He serves as General Secretary of the Karl Barth Society of North America and is an ordained minister of the United Church of Canada.

Paul D. Molnar is Professor of Systematic Theology at St. John's University in Queens, New York, where he has taught for over forty years. Across eight books and many articles, his work centers on the doctrine of the Trinity, Christology, and the theology of Karl Barth and Thomas F. Torrance. His recent books include The Centrality of Christ in the Theology of Thomas F. Torrance and Divine Freedom and the Doctrine of the Immanent Trinity: In Dialogue with Karl Barth and Contemporary Theology, both from Bloomsbury T&T Clark.

Katherine Sonderegger is Professor of Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary, where she has taught since 2002. She is at work on a multi-volume Systematic Theology with Fortress Press — two volumes published and a third in production — a project widely regarded as one of the most significant works of constructive theology of its generation. She is a priest of the Episcopal Church, resident in the Diocese of Virginia.
