Alliyah is here to wrap up our summer highlight series! She interned with as part of the conservation team at NYC Parks. The main goal of this project was to research two locally threatened plant species and develop Conservation Assessments to help the conservationists in saving them. She also travelled to the natural areas all over NYC with the team to help with fieldwork ranged from monitoring rare, threatened, and endangered plants to minnow and terrapin trapping ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿข

Next up on our Summer Highlight Series is Lillian! She did an internship with researching different agricultural practices on local NJ farms. She also worked in collaboration with other groups, including the Turtle Clan of the Lenape Tribe to set up the Seed Farm at Stony Ford, where they are growing heritage seeds with the intent to give them back to the communities they originate from. How cool! ๐Ÿ˜

This summer, our Vice-President Spencer travelled around the boreal forests of Northern Quรฉbec and along the winding Appalachian Trail in North Carolina. He conducted research with on the nitrogen cycle within organisms like mosses and lichens, key behind-the-scenes workers that keep ecosystems in balance. This summer, Andrew enjoyed exploring his Jewish heritage while exploring the country of Tunisia! Andrew was able to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Lag Bโ€™Omer with the community there, which is a holiday that has become a pilgrimage for Tunisian Jews ๐Ÿ™‚ He is our Social Chair and is looking forward to a productive year!

._.bornn is first up on our Summer Highlight series! โ˜€๏ธ Marissa traveled to Iceland with her family and experienced the ultimate duality: fire and ice! She hiked to a live volcanic eruption and saw a glacial lagoon that has (unfortunately) formed due to 1,000 meters of glacier recession.
