✨ Social Cues Aren’t Always Obvious
A lot of social cues are never said out loud. They show up in small things — someone’s tone, facial expression, body language, eye contact, a pause, or even what is left unsaid. 💬👀
For many autistic children and adults, these cues may not come naturally or feel easy to read. A child might miss a pause, misunderstand a look, or respond in a way others did not expect.
That doesn’t mean they’re being rude, careless, or disrespectful. Sometimes, the “invisible rules” just haven’t been made clear yet. 🧩
As parents, caregivers, and community members, we can help by slowing down and explaining things gently. Instead of saying, “You should have known,” we can try:
“Let’s talk about what happened.”
“Maybe they meant it this way.”
“What could we look for next time?”
A little patience can turn a confusing moment into a learning moment. 🌱
