Asparagus closes out the 2025-'26 Garden State on Your Plate program, and it's on a school lunch tray (and a curriculum) near you! And it might be growing in the district's Edible Gardens as well!
Purchase of a PPS K12 school meal nets a serving of Steamed Asparagus on June 2, a tumble of Parmesan Sauteed Asparagus on June 10, and a generous scoop of Pasta-Asparagus Salad on June 11.
That's in addition to the groundbreaking anti-hunger work by Pomptonian, where each school meal purchase includes unlimited servings of the produce on offer that day.
Thanks to all who tend to the students at Princeton Public Schools, to the parents whose first answer is Yes!, to Pomptonian, Zone 7, Princeton Public Schools, the bent spoon, Lillipies, Whole Earth Center of Princeton and the Church & Dwight Employee Giving Fund, for steadfast and generous support of this food systems literacy program.
It's not too early to plan around spotlighted produce for the 2026-'27 school year – or to plant these crops in your own garden or in pots on the patio! More information as it develops at psgcoop.org; asparagus posters, plus Pomptonian and other recipes will be published soon.
