πΈπ Look Whatβs Blooming This Week at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve! π¦πΏ
June is Pollinator Month, and the Preserve is alive with color, fragrance, and the busy work of bees, butterflies, beetles, and other pollinators.
This week's featured blooms include:
Water Lily β Floating blossoms provide nectar and pollen for insects while supporting the rich aquatic ecosystem of the Preserve.
Virginia Rose β Its open flowers make pollen and nectar easily accessible to native bees and butterflies.
Sweetbay Magnolia β One of our favorite native trees, its fragrant blooms attract beetles and other pollinators, continuing an ancient plant-pollinator relationship.
Foxglove Beardtongue β A favorite of bumble bees, whose size and strength allow them to reach the nectar hidden deep within the tubular flowers.
Wild Geranium β An important source of pollen and nectar for native bees and other beneficial insects in late spring and early summer.
Native plants are the foundation of healthy habitats. They provide the food and shelter that pollinators need, and in return, pollinators help sustain the ecosystems that support birds, wildlife, and countless other species.
