Marna's Pals, also known as The Marna Pal Memorial Scholarship Fund, was founded by David Pal & Elizabeth Diaz in Jan 2012 to help students whose families have been affected by cancer to achieve higher education through support groups and scholarships. David lost his father suddenly during his junior year of high school in 2006. Just 2 short years later as he was beginning his collegiate career, D
avid also lost his mother after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Playing no victim to tragedy, David persevered and through hard work and with the help of scholarships, David graduated from the Honors BioMedical Engineering Program at Rutgers University in 2011. David is now a PhD candidate at Princeton University for Environmental Engineering again funded by scholarships. Having experienced the effects that cancer can have on a family and on a student, David can fully appreciate the great aid that scholarships can provide. Wanting to give back and help other students like him, David partnered up with his best friend, Elizabeth Diaz, also a Rutgers Alum to build Marna's Pals. David & Elizabeth met their senior year through their Greek organizations. Dave is a proud brother of Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma Delta & Elizabeth is a proud sister of Alpha Chi Omega, Theta Tau. "Being Greek has had a tremendous impact on our organization. It's really helped to set us up for success through experience. Philanthropy has always been the heart of what we do."
- Elizabeth Diaz, COO
David's mother is the namesake of the organization. We currently have three support groups forming at Rutgers University, Rider University, and Princeton University. If you are interested in helping to form these or additional organizations, please contact [email protected].
