Greetings from A Living Collective 🐦🌿

Designed and constructed by the team at KSS Architects, this thoughtfully crafted birdhouse reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and community—featuring repurposed materials and a design centered on its (feathered) residents.

Inspired by the later work of architect John Hejduk, A Living Collective embraces the idea of architecture as a social contract: a unifying force that brings people together and frames building as a shared, collective act. This philosophy closely aligns with the mission of Princeton Community Housing, where creating spaces means fostering connection, participation, and belonging.

Carefully designed to harmonize with its surroundings at Trinity Church, the birdhouse welcomes a range of local bird species and reflects the importance of building in conversation with the natural environment.

Last week, our senior residents at Elm Court and Harriet Bryan House got together for a game of Lotería (aka Mexican bingo) with Princeton, NJ Government's Human Services (PHS) and the Princeton NJ Police Department!

Lotería has become a beloved tradition in Princeton over the past few years, and this time the fun came straight to our residents. The turnout was inspiring, with seniors of all backgrounds gathered to learn the game for the first time, teach neighbors how to play, and enjoy each other’s company.

A huge thank you to PHS and PPD for bringing so much joy to our residents right at home. We love seeing Princeton come together like this! ❤️🌟

Greetings from the PCV Community Garden! 🌱

Last week, neighbors of all ages and backgrounds at Princeton Community Village came together with our friends at Sustainable Princeton for a joyful community planting day as we prepared the garden for a vibrant season ahead.

Our garden enthusiasts showed up with energy, a clear vision, and their sleeves already rolled up. The shared space is officially prepped and ready for a season full of growth, connection, and fresh harvests. We’re excited to see this space flourishing again!

NOTE: The PCH offices will be closed this coming Monday, May 25th, for Memorial Day! We will be back the following day on Tuesday, the 26th.

Introducing Fowl Inequity: Density Is Not a Four-Letter Word 🐦🏘️

Expertly designed and built by the team at Joshua Zinder Architecture + Design, this striking birdhouse explores two contrasting visions of housing: one that offers comfort to a few while occupying significant space, and another that serves many through clusters of smaller, diverse homes that encourage creativity and innovation.

Inspired by the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s estimated shortage of 200,000 homes, Fowl Inequity offers a powerful commentary on our built environment—where access to shelter remains a privilege rather than a human (or avian) right. The stark visual imbalance between the two sides highlights the growing divide in housing inequity and invites us to reflect on how we allocate space and resources. Density, often misunderstood, has the potential to foster sustainability, equity, and stronger communities.

Meet PCH Community Board Trustee, Thalia Mingo!

Thalia first connected with Princeton Community Housing through the previous representative to PCH at Trinity Church Princeton, a role she later assumed herself. While she has long been committed to equity and social impact, learning more about PCH opened her eyes to the profound and far-reaching effects of affordable housing. She saw how deeply housing stability influences people’s health, financial security, and overall well-being—connections that resonated with her background in healthcare-related fields. What truly sparked her passion, however, was a simple but powerful realization: many people who work in Princeton, including healthcare professionals, cannot afford to live here. That insight inspired her commitment to being part of the solution and helping to build a more affordable, inclusive, and vibrant community.

In addition to serving as Trinity Church’s representative, Thalia is the Governance Chair of the PCH Boards. She has lived in Princeton for more than two decades, having originally moved to the area for a role at Bristol Myers Squibb. Outside of her community work, Thalia enjoys creative expression through voice performance, bringing stories, scripts, and characters to life.

Did you catch the Homecoming Chorus at PCH’s 2025 “Homecoming” Fall Benefit? What began as a one-night-only performance, bringing together 30 singers from across our community partners under the direction of PCH trustees Caroline Travers and John Gilmore, has grown into something even more special.

This weekend, that same spirit of collaboration continues as members of the Homecoming Chorus join voices with the combined choirs of Nassau Presbyterian Church and All Saints' Church, Princeton, including John and Caroline, for another inspiring performance for Sunrise Mass on Sunday, May 3, at All Saints’.

We’re honored to see these connections flourish beyond a single event, and grateful to be reminded of what’s possible when our neighbors come together!

Happy Earth Day from Elm Court! 🌱

Even on a rainy morning, residents at Elm Court and Harriet Bryan House came together with our partners from the Princeton, NJ Government's Health Department and Zufall Health to celebrate both Earth Day and this year’s official opening of the Elm Court Community Garden.

Neighbors brought the sunshine indoors by catching up, sharing what they’re planning to grow, and looking ahead to another year of growth, connection, and fresh harvests in the garden.

Zufall Health and the Princeton Health Department also brought gardening tools and helpful health resources to support residents throughout the season. We’re so grateful for their partnership and for spending the morning with us!

Introducing Kristina’s World! 🕊️

Created by Princeton Design Guild (PDG), this stunning installation in Princeton Community Housing’s Birdhouse Project celebrates a year of milestones in 2025—50 years of PCV, 40 years of Elm Court, and PDG’s own 40th anniversary. A multifamily birdhouse, Kristina’s World is as functional as it is beautiful, thoughtfully designed to support bird life while inspiring the community.

This piece honors Kristina Barbara Johnson, a renowned 20th-century Arts and Crafts collector who lived in Princeton and championed many local causes. Her daughter, Kookie, generously sold PDG the prototype at an estate sale, which inspired this special birdhouse.
