Learn the skills to shine in the showring!

May 30th | Bureau County Fairgrounds

Join us for a free, entry-level educational Fitting and Showmanship clinic designed for youth ages 8-18 to build confidence and learn the essentials of preparing animals for show. Attendees will learn practical skills for fitting and discover tips and techniques to improve showmanship skills.

YQCA training will be available for those who pre-register at www.yqcaprogram.org. Please see registration for further instructions!

Youth from 29 counties across Illinois competed in the 2026 Illinois State 4-H Horse Judging Contest on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Black Hawk College East Campus in Galva. And the winners are ...

🏆 Shelby Krutke (McLean County) earned the Larry Carls Memorial Award as the contest’s overall high-point individual.

Top individuals – Non-Reasons Division:
Shelby Krutke (McLean), Olivia Erjavsek (Bureau), Shannon Bernard (Marion), Harper Allen (Champaign), Abby Johnson (Knox), Na’ia Bailey (Champaign), Addison Yordy (Ogle), Allison Hemker (Bond), Adalyn Bocker (Ogle), and Devin Burrs (Carroll).

Top individuals – Reasons Division:
Payton Frueh (Bureau), Mallory Zimmerman (Christian), Lexi Merriman (DeWitt), Anna Hessell (Rock Island), Bailey Callahan (Rock Island), Alexandra Holland (McLean), Lindley Burns (Mercer), Jenna Green (Kendall), Landee Clark (Crawford), and Lola Hackney (Christian).

Through judging six classes of horses — and delivering oral reasons for senior participants — youth build skills that go far beyond the arena, including decision-making, public speaking, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all and thank you to all of our participants and volunteers!

Would anyone like to sign up for Horse Judging? If so, let us know!

Registration is open for the 2025 State Horse Judging Contest to be held at 1pm on February 2 at the Black Hawk College East campus!

In the State 4-H Horse Judging Contest youth will judge six classes of horses, at least two being halter classes while participating in a fun, friendly competition. You do not need to own a horse to participate!
