Breast cancer touches more lives than we may realize: patients, survivors, caregivers, families, and friends.
For our Jewish community, awareness is especially important. About 1 in 40 people of Ashkenazi Jewish descent carries a harmful BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene change, which can increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Among Ashkenazi Jewish women diagnosed with breast cancer, about 1 in 10 have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene change.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we stand alongside everyone in our community whose life has been changed by breast cancer.
May we continue to support one another, share resources, encourage conversations about family history and genetic risk, and remind each other that no one has to face difficult moments alone.
