Coalition for Peace Action

Coalition for Peace Action Mission: the global abolition of nuclear weapons, a peace economy, and a halt to weapons trafficking.

In September 1980, a group of religious congregations in the Princeton area joined together to sponsor a Teaching Conference and Interfaith Service on the theme "Can We Reverse the Nuclear Arms Race?" The response was overwhelming - nearly 2,000 attended. At a follow-up meeting several weeks later, a decision was made to form an ongoing organization dedicated to nuclear disarmament - the Coalition

to Reverse the Nuclear Arms Race. In 1981 the name was shortened to the Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and the organization expanded beyond Princeton to cover central and southern New Jersey. In 1982, the Coalition co-led a statewide Nuclear Weapons Freeze referendum that won the support of 66% of New Jersey Voters. In 1988, to increase coordination and effectiveness, the Coalition's members voted to affiliate with Peace Action, the largest grassroots peace group in the US. As the Cold War drew to an end in the late 1980's, the Coalition's goals expanded to include the related goals of reaping a major peace dividend - a peace economy - and halting weapons trafficking, both internationally and domestically. In 1993, to reflect this broader agenda, the members voted to change the name of the organization to the Coalition for Peace Action.

CFPA is pleased to present Peace Voter Guides on Congressional Districts 2, and 7 in NJ; and District 1 in PA (Bucks County).

A top priority request we make of all our supporters and contacts is to forward the appropriate Peace Voter Guide as widely as possible, as quickly as possible. We need your help to educate peace-oriented voters in those races by mid-May in PA, and by the end of May in NJ! Please share!

As state leaders finalize New Jerseyโ€™s budget, they face a clear choice: continue requiring working people to absorb the growing costs of climate change through higher taxes and cuts to essential services โ€” or pass the Polluters Pay Act and require the companies most responsible to pay their fair share.

Join CFPA as we'll gather in downtown Princeton with student leaders, elected officials, community members, and a broad coalition of organizations as part of the March and Rallies to Make Polluters Pay, a week of actions from May 1-7 to call on our Legislature and Governor Sherrill to pass this critical legislation BEFORE they finalize the state budget.

The Polluters Pay Act (S2338/A3735) will address our worsening climate and affordability crises by making polluters pay, generating $50 billion to help make our New Jersey communities healthier, safer, and more resilient to climate impacts.

This is a big fight. Big Oil and their lackeys will do everything they can to escape accountability for the harm their pollution has inflicted on our climate and communities. We must continue to demonstrate our growing power and use our collective voices to demand polluters pay their fair share!
