Photos from CFPA's annual observance of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, keynoted by Dr. Alan Robock, Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University, and a leading expert on the climatic consequences of nuclear conflict. Over 60 attended this in-person commemoration, presented in partnership with Princeton Public Library, which also hosted the event. Last week, Congress, for the first time ever, passed a Concurrent War Powers Resolution. While there are debates about whether the measure has the force of law, it does not go to Trump’s desk for him to sign (or veto). U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he will pursue a legal strategy to see that it is enforced.

Regardless, the successful vote puts political pressure on the Trump regime to hold to the shaky ceasefire deal with Iran, and to proceed to negotiate a longer term peace agreement. A revival of the war is absolutely unacceptable.

You may have read that after getting chewed out by Trump, Senate Republicans forced another vote on a separate Iran War Powers Resolution, and narrowly defeated it. However, this does not negate the previous vote, held just a day before.

Our calls, emails, and protest demonstrations representing public opposition to the deeply unpopular war have had a strong impact, and we need to recognize our power. Thanks so much to all of you who have demanded that your Congresspersons oppose this war!

On June 3, the US House rejected Trump's illegal War on Iran!

Call NOW to Urge your US Senators to Do the Same!

The illegal, needless, brutal U.S.-Israeli war of aggression against Iran continues. But Congress is finally working to represent the interests of the American people rather than those of the endless war machine, and your congress members need to hear from you once again.

Last week, the House of Representatives, for the first time in four attempts, voted IN FAVOR of the Iran War Powers Resolution (WPR), asserting its Constitutional authority over matters of war and peace by passing the resolution 215-208. If you called to pressure your Representative to vote the right way – thank you, your efforts worked! This marks a significant victory in the march to end Trump’s senseless war.

The week before, the Senate, also for the first time, jumped over the first hurdle--a motion to discharge its version of the WPR--by a margin of 50 - 47. Thank you if you helped to make both of these important steps happen!

Now this week, the next vote in the Senate will be on a motion to proceed on Iran War Powers. Should it pass, there will then be a vote on the WPR itself, possibly with up to ten hours of debate, and perhaps with amendments offered.

Congress can stop this madness, and we need YOUR HELP to keep the pressure up on our Senators.

1) Call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121
2) Ask to be connected to your Senator's office. Make 2 calls - one for each Senator.
3) Once connected, give them this message (in as many of your own words as possible):

"Hello, my name is ____________ and I'm a voting constituent from (your city). As a constituent, I have one urgent demand today:

I urge the senator to support Senator Tim Kaine's War Powers Resolution, S.J. Res. 185, to stop President Trump's continued unauthorized military aggressions against Iran. It is expected that a vote on a motion to proceed on this resolution could occur this week.

Trump’s disastrous, illegal war on Iran has killed thousands, cost U.S. taxpayers tens of billions of dollars, and is driving up gas and food prices for people worldwide, including here at home. It's long past time to bring it to an end. I urge my senator to vote “YES” on the war powers resolution to stop this unconstitutional war."
