Princeton Social Innovation Creating value at Princeton University

Recently rebranded from Princeton Social Entrepreneurship Initiative, Princeton Social Innovation brings events to campus that encourage students to pursue social impact careers. Our team hosts TEDxPrincetonU, speaker events focusing on social innovation, and PSICON, an annual social impact conference with a social venture competition in which we award over $30,000 in seed funding.

TEDxPrincetonU, a PSI event, is happening tomorrow!

Check out their page and make sure to like and follow the event, which features amazing speakers, like Dr Andrew Appel. You can find a sneak peak of Dr Appel's talk below

Princeton Computer Science professor, Andrew Appel, will be speaking on “Internet Voting? Really?”.

In this heated election year, Dr. Appel explores the history of voting and voting fraud as we have transitioned from paper ballots to mechanical voting machines. What does the future of voting and voting security look like in the United States?

Make sure to listen to Dr Appel's talk for the answer to these questions and more!

ANDREW W. APPEL ’81, is Eugene Higgins Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University, where he has been on the faculty since 1986. He served as Department Chair from 2009-2015. His research is in software verification, computer security, programming languages and compilers, and technology policy. He received his A.B. summa cm laude in physics from Princeton in 1981, and his PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1985. He has been Editor in Chief of ACM Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems and is a Fellow of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). He has worked on fast N-body algorithms (1980s), Standard ML of New Jersey (1990s), Foundational Proof-Carrying Code (2000s), and the Verified Software Toolchain (2010s).

"Five days out, there is perhaps no better starting point for discussions about how Princeton students can pursue socially responsible careers than to begin with someone who was himself a Princeton student only a few short years ago, Tim Hwang."

Hey everyone! If you're interested in interning for a social enterprise this summer, here's a great opportunity to check out! I found an internship opportunity in the fall on our PSI page, and now I'm going to Stockholm for software engineering this summer, so make sure to take a look at this post!

-----

Here's an opportunity to be part of something new.

Millennial TechCorps -- a selective internship program is launching this summer with a pilot program.

Apply on our website: http://www.MillennialTechCorps.org

Job Description:

Please forward to interested parties! Thank you!

INVITATION TO APPLY TO MILLENNIAL TECHCORPS

Be part of our inaugural summer pilot program! We are placing 10-20 tech-savvy college students in 6-10 week summer internships at non-profits and for-profits with purpose. If you are interested in social good and social innovation, we want to know you. Apply to be part of a cohort of students who will each have a technology project around one or more of the following: social media, web design, Google Analytics, Google Apps, Google Adwords for Non-Profits, Kickstarter, Database building, mobile apps, online surveys, IRC, email outreach, Prezi/Powerpoint. You may be asked to develop a technology implementation plan for a non-profit. We have lots of opportunities with many different types of organizations -- here in Princeton and in the Bay area.

We will have a Training Bootcamp so that you can learn what you need to know for the job and also meet your fellow summer interns in the program. And, we will meet up intermittently to exchange stories and learn from each other's experiences. With Millennial TechCorps, you can gain work experience with an organization where you might have more autonomy than a usual summer internship. And you will be involved with a civic-minded group of people with a shared goal.

Check out our website: www.MillennialTechCorps.org for more information and to apply.
