Princeton YMCA hosted its ninth annual Bart’s Challenge, bringing together YMCA members, community participants, volunteers, and supporters for a day of fitness, friendly competition, and community impact. This year’s event raised over $25,000 toward Princeton YMCA’s 2026 Annual Campaign, which supports access to YMCA programs and services for individuals and families throughout the community.
The competition featured six timed exercises: planks, mountain climbers, sit-ups, regular and declined push-ups, and chin-ups. Participants competed individually, in pairs, or as part of four-person teams across competitive and recreational heats. All participants received a commemorative T-shirt and medal, while top performers earned special prizes. The event welcomed approximately 40 participants and volunteers, including 10 judges.
Bart’s Challenge is named in honor of Bart Talloen, a retired Johnson & Johnson senior executive and fitness enthusiast who has raised more than $300,000 for the YMCA through his athletic pursuits and fundraising efforts since 2018. Through the annual competition, Talloen encourages participants to challenge themselves physically while supporting the YMCA’s mission and expanding access to programs that strengthen the community.
“Bart’s Challenge began with a simple idea: leverage my personal world record quests to motivate others to set their goals and start their own fitness journeys. We bring people together through fitness while giving back to a cause that matters,” said Talloen. “It’s rewarding to see the event continue to grow and welcome participants of different backgrounds, ages and abilities. I hope it inspires even more individuals, schools, businesses, and community organizations to get involved, set personal goals, and discover the value of fitness and how healthy living can bring people together.”
